Here is my Ritch Rand "Tom Mix" in all natural beaver. This hat is worn by me strictly for dress occasions such as living history events, Pow Wows, rodeos & trade shows, & their banquets. It was not made to measure for me but bought from a Rand dealer. After I had admired it for a couple of yrs displayed in a glass case at the dealers (in my size even) I walked in one time when passing thru & noticed it was gone. I asked the hat tech if it had been sold to learn that they had boxed it up & put it in storage. When I inquired if it could be bought at a discount the tech got his manager, then went to get the hat while we negotiated a final price. I had the tech bring down the fenders just a bit more to my liking. This is a great quality hat!

Thank you guys! Since it was in my size which is not common stock (7-5/8 LO), and since I had admired it on display in a glass box for about 2 yrs but wouldn't pay the price for natural beaver, when things ended up the way they did I felt like I was destined to have it. And I treat it accordingly.

What a GREAT looking hat!!! I love it!! It sort of reminds me of the hat that Levon Helm wore in 'The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada'...

My size as well... I am extremely jealous...

Again... very nice!

Thank you Redshoes! Forgive me if my subconscious mind takes over sometime & I type your screen name as Famous Shoes (I'm a big Lonesome Dove fan)!

I don't recall Levon Helm being in "The Three Burials..." or the hat he wore. I probably need to watch that again sometime.

And I've made note of the fact we wear the same size in hats. That's good to know; maybe there should be a size registry of who wears what here on the forum?

Great looking Stetson Hurricane!
But... I never saw Stetsons from the 60's with a "Made in USA" stamped on the sweatband.
Joao, I've already boxed & put away the hat or I could take another pic showing the size tag which is the tag used by Stetson before Stevens switched them to the two size tag in 1971.

That switch happened more like the mid 80's.
Stevens was already using the two size tag with the European size listed on their product line when they bought Stetson in 1971. They switched Stetson over soon after. This hat has the squared off tag Stetson had used previously.

Be careful when you use Mr. Huston's web site for your research. It is rife with inaccurate information. He was a member here and was booted off at least 3 times that I am aware of. He owns some great hats, but I don't care for his way of mining his info.

So is the black '60's tag factual then or not? My other Tom Mix has the same tag with the printed last drop headliner which could have put it just before the tag change, I suppose.
