I guess I kind of decided on this 2 ply ribbon. I tacked it on and trimmed it up. It looks pretty good, but still not sure yet. Esther and John Galt were kind enough to send me some thin ribbon. So I'll see what I finally decide once the ribbons arrive. I'd like to take the brim binding off but I'm afraid the stitch holes would show. Then, I'd have to cut the brim down a little and I want to avoid that.

But for now, until I finally decide...

Thanks Lt., RJR, The open crown height is 6 1/2 inches. As creased the crown is 5 1/2 inches overall, 5 inches at the pinch with the rake sloping to 4 1/2 inches in the back.

Patience is a virtue. Saw a recent Stetson 4xx priced at $70 last Friday. Went back on Monday, saw the hat still there and haggled with the owner. Came home with the hat and original box for $50.

The embroidered western shirt is not common here, I think I never saw one near me. I think I can't pull off one of those.

Sort of unsure where I should post this... 37 years ago my Akubra hat as work attire on our sheep and cattle station (read 'ranch' for US friends) and the only black hat I've ever owned. Chin strap can be seen hanging down, an essential when working on horseback to ensure it doesn't blow off at a gallop!
