    Your favorite hat marketing terms

My vote goes to "Indiana Jones style hat", covering any number of mostly fedoras as long as they are brown.

How did America let this man become an icon of the working class?

When the educational system became more interested in the process of education and social engineering disguised as political correctness instead of actual content the seeds were sewn for the current situation. When teachers are educated in how to teach but not what to teach and are they...

How did America let this man become an icon of the working class?

He isn't the icon of the working class. He's the comedic embodiment of the southern redneck. Who ever heard of him before the "You might be a redneck if.." Jeff Foxworthy phenomenon? Think of it this way, all southern rednecks are working class but not all working class are southern rednecks...

Do you wear a fedora with your leather jacket?

I regularly wear fedoras with my A-2. If I'm wearing my G-1 I'll wear a ball cap, but that's mostly because I wore ball caps with the G-1 while in the navy and it just feels strange not to, even now. I don't get Indiana Jones comments, being much too old for such comparisons to be made.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Pizza places where you can sit down and order a pizza are all over the place here still. Maybe not to the degree that Mexican restaurants are these days, but still pretty common.

    A Hobo Wedding

I think my wife and I spent about $500 on our church wedding and that included the reception. My parents might have spent about another $500 on my wedding for the reception dinner and flowers, but I know no more than $1,000 was spent total. My wife's parents weren't in a position to spend...

    The Next Titanic!

    Precisely. ;)

    The Next Titanic!

I meant to add, it looks like a scheme to attract investors.

    The Next Titanic!

I'd think there would be a major problem with resupply. It would almost have to be continuous. And very expensive. Much easier to just build that structure on a real island.

    Have an interview Monday-dress question?

Middle of the road conservative is almost never a bad option for a white collar job interview. Except for the most conservative organizations the sartorial details aren't really all that important to an interviewer compared to your qualifications, overall manner, and ability to talk...

    Slap hat

I think that checking your state laws might be in order. I'd bet that here in NC that hat would qualify as a concealed weapon and therefore be illegal off your own property. But I'm not a lawyer and I certainly don't play one on TV.

    Military experiences.

US Navy 1965-1969, aircrew on P2V-7 Neptunes and later on P3-B Orions hunting Russian subs all over the North Atlantic. Was based first in Norfolk, VA and then the squadron moved to Pax River, MD after getting the P3's. Deployed twice to Kevflavik, Iceland with side trips to the Azores, Puerto...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

There are quite a few Christmas tree farmers here in North Carolina and it's quite easy to find a real tree. We usually wait until a few days before Christmas when the prices are dropping to pick one out. Sure, the selection tends to be not as good as a few weeks earlier, but typically the price...

    fur felt in hot weather?

For me fur felt is just too hot in the 100F days we're having right now. But more importantly for me I just don't want to get sweat stains on my good fur felt hats. And in this heat that's exactly what would happen.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Apologies if it has already been mentioned somewhere, but I miss foot operated high beam switches. For that matter I miss the days when there was light enough traffic that I could actually use my high beams.

Shoe shine:Do your own or take out??

I've always shined my own shoes, a useful skill learned in the military. I wouldn't even know where a shoe shine stand is in my area. If there is one, one capable and willing to shine my shoes to my standards, they'd likely charge more than I'd be willing to pay.

    What was in my wallet?

For the thirties Lizzy probably summed it up best. As you enter the 40's add maybe a ration card, a defense plant id, and your selective service card.

    Favorite Historic Buildings or Places

One of my nephews lives in Cincinnati and had his marriage reception and dinner there in the Music Hall. Quite a place.
