In the 1910s I've seen pics of Mary Thurman with the longer hair of the time. She had the black bob in a 1921 Fatty Arbuckle film which is the earliest I've seen her with that hairstyle. My guess is this photo is from the late 1910s (?)
Gosh darnnit Miss Hadley -- now you've gone and done...
GOOD ONE!
They did look alike! Same wide, flat nose!! I'm wondering if the gal in my headshot isn't Mary Thurman and NOT Marie Prevost. I'll admit I'm rusty with my early silent stars lol
Towards the end of her career she noticed a man in the front row looking at her through binoculars and she told him to put them down because it would "ruin the illusion."
Just Imagine (1930) was tailor-made for me. I'm obsessed with anything "paleo-future" and this has it in spades. I also love really "bad" vaudeville comedy from this time -- the kind that was even outdated and groan-worthy in 1930 lol El Brendel delivers wonderfully! I also love his delivery...
I answered this back in the day, but I made a list. Here is ONE movie that I love more than all the others:
It's funny, original, brilliant, VERY "of it's time", has great songs, great pre-Code jokes that make me chuckle, and I love that they were way off in their predictions of what...
lol
My grandmother is 81 and she's the same way. She'll answer questions about "the old days", but you can tell she's not really interested in "going back." But I guess we'll be the same when we're 85 and kids want to wear clothing from the 80s and 90s lol I actually have some saved...
Exactly how I feel about Jean. Only my husband is on the same level as her. She's the most perfect woman ever to me. I love her in ALL her incarnations, but admit I'm especially fond of her earliest look:
