I wonder if this jacket is the "missing link" between when Schott used to sew the belt in the correct position and nowadays when they sew it in too high. In the photo below they got the left-hand belt sewn in okay, but the right-hand belt is too high (and today they sew it in even higher).
Hey look, we already have an 8-page thread on N1 deck jackets:

But I guess now we have another one in which we can have all the same discussions again.
THAT coat is extremely excellent, Michael. I love it. It's got a relaxed look but not casual, and the cloth reminds me of military overcoats but of course it's got none of the 'baggage' that comes with that. Great find. Yeah, you don't need any more coats, but this is easily one of your best...
^ I've got a Joseph Banks trenchcoat and it's a well-made, heavy bit of mid-level outerwear. I paid a lot more than $12 though! Good find, Bushman. Should be just the thing for the windy city. (Btw, I hear you about finding properly fitting wool coats, they seem less forgiving than raincoats...
^ That's another excellent coat, Michael. I have a coat in the same herringbone pattern, same colours, and it's very versatile. Crombie of course is a long-time producer of some of the best overcoat cloth (and coats).
Temperature on my walk this morning was 10C. We had a few days of low teens last month, which felt cool, but today was the first day that had a winter nip/bite in the air. There's no question now that summer is over.
^ Oh yeah, you gotta love French military/paramilitary sizing... "100L". I ran across that when I was idly researching French firefighter coats. It was a struggle to figure out how it worked and I never really did, lol
Here's an auction for one of these jackets:

Here's a high quality version of that image with some info on the three men depicted:

There's a million great photos on that site, worth checking out.
Anthony Bourdain's CWU 45/P which he was apparently given as a gift in 2006. It will be up for auction here in October. The tag indicates that it is the civilian nylon version by Alpha.
