    "Battleship"

all at sea I thought that the 'investment risk' was considered too great in relation to capital input per tonnage unit (so to speak) since the advent of ATS/STS missile systems.?

Ellroy's Aloha shirt - where to procure one?

Well, not quite, I have an original Reyn's shirt from the 50's which would have to qualify as classic, and full marks to the current label for working WITH instead of ripping off (like some Japanese labels I believe) the Shaheen family to keep some of their classic designs in circulation.

Ellroy's Aloha shirt - where to procure one?

one of Dunno bout RS, looks like a Kamehameha design to me, possibly an original or maybe a SunSurf repro going by the buttons, but I find it hard to believe Ellroy would wear anything but the real thing....

    Bloody Mary Mix

bloody hell I'm sorry, how could one be in a position where one couldn't make one's own......I can't see it as a drink one would try and have for breakfast hiking through the wilderness for example....;) The ingredients are quite simple and should be in EVERYONE'S pantry surely?

    one track mind

While researching the old film Fahrenheit 451 which showed on TV here recently, I discovered this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwebebahn_Wuppertal If I'd known about it I would definitely have checked it out on my several visits to Germany years ago...amazing stuff...we still can't get...

    Cop This

the dinkum oil Many posts ago the old neatsfoot controversy came up..I've got an old Oregon jacket here that's had many doses of it over the last 30 years..to no noticeable ill-effect, the pure oil from boiled down cattle has no chemical adds, so therefore can't hurt the jacket in my opinion...

    Cop This

It's Called Patina Well it's got a new zip, new authentic buttons, the foul dead smoker's stench removed, and several good coats of lanolin/beeswax/neatsfoot oil. I have absolutely no intention of reblacking it with raven oil, becuase then it would lose the patina which is completely...

    Suddenly it's suede :-(

Caveat emptor Would have fooled me, a question though, the setting of the cuffs with an inner ring for want of a better description, does that have a technical term? I have the same thing on an old Police jacket I've just fixed up

    Black Dynamite!

alright! Yes indeed, utterly hilarious, I must confess that I had to watch a pirate copy as it has no distribution in this country and none is on he horizon, but hopefully I can make up for it by totally recommending it as the funniest movie I've seen in a LONG time, so why don't y'all over...

    Bataan (1943 MGM pictures)

In Like An old man's memory ain't what it used to be, but I seem to recall that in his autobiography, he rationalised his avoidance by saying that no-one or country had done anything much for him so he didn't feel he owed allegiance to any particular side in the conflict..or words to that...

    Bataan (1943 MGM pictures)

Back fire Then again of course you have utter rubbish churned out as propaganda such as that dreadful blot on Errol Flynn's career, Objective Burma, which completely ignored the fact that Burma was primarily a British/Indian theatre, and made it look like a few Yanks saved the day there. The...

The Island of Misfit Stetsons - factory rejects

indeed Who's to blame for that though, manufacturers not caring what they send out, or the consumer's corresponding lack of discernment, most people are more concerned with price than quality these days...it's a global mindset.

Battle of the Bulge Reenactment - Big Lake, MN 19 DEC 09

303 Having fired one myself many times I did think it unusual that it would be used, but who knows, maybe the imaginary GI lost his carbine in the confusion of the breakthrough, or had picked one up off a dead Tommy somewhere along the line, appropriation of non-standard weaponry would have...
