It's Called Patina

Well it's got a new zip, new authentic buttons, the foul dead smoker's stench removed, and several good coats of lanolin/beeswax/neatsfoot oil.
I have absolutely no intention of reblacking it with raven oil, becuase then it would lose the patina which is completely impossible to reproduce, and what most people find 'cool' about it to begin with, I've already knocked back an offer of $300 for it. People pay more than that for fake stressed leathers trying to get the look this thing has.

Looks like it's been out on the road with Mad Max himself. I have often read that neatsfoot oil, while an old fave, actually rots stitching and is counterproductive to leather... beeswax is meant to be okay... It's like religion this leather preservative stuff, faith in certain products eh?

Many posts ago the old neatsfoot controversy came up..I've got an old Oregon jacket here that's had many doses of it over the last 30 years..to no noticeable ill-effect, the pure oil from boiled down cattle has no chemical adds, so therefore can't hurt the jacket in my opinion and experience....
wiki tellls us it oxidises and makes leather brittle, but I haven't observed that effect in the aforementioned timeframe.....

I was told it is neatsfoot COMPOUND that will rot the stitching, not neatsfoot OIL. Got this from a professional saddle maker when I took him an old Buford saddle for repairs. He had apprenticed there & actually knew this saddle. He said neatsfoot compound should only be used on leather w/o any stitching present. Pure neatsfoot oil was okay on the stitching.
