I typed Goodwear, but my phone decided to autocorrect. It's got an annoying habit of doing that. :(
I thought that the hide of the (only) Aero A2 I've seen was nicer than the Eastmans I saw at American Classics in London, but I haven't had a chance to compare them directly. Hence my preference...
Accuracy aside, I think that the Aero A2 jackets are nicer than their Eastman equivalents. But I'm not an obsessive who's worried about getting the details exactly right. :)
A Goodyear A2 is going to be around $200, or 20%, more than an Aero, and the gap closes if you go for goatskin rather...
Would it be worth getting a quote off Wade at Insurrection?
At current mid-market exchange rates, an Aero Cafe Racer (not A2 :D) is $965, and duty will come in at around $60 on top of that taking it to around $1025. Insurrection charge $1125 including shipping, so depending on how you're...
Is that the Very Ample Torso charge that Aero make?
British clothing manufacturers generally assume that anyone taking an XXL size is going to be morbidly obese, and cut their cloth accordingly. My brother, who is known to rock a belly, complains about this.
I'm wanting to get a Cafe Racer in...
I believe that the Hercules is based on the Fifties Halfbelt pattern. Mine also has the quilting lining that the earlier models had, which probably takes it down a size. (i.e. it's tagged a 50, but fits closer to a 48.)
Aero's sizes at the upper end of the scale tend to be quite boxy, rather...
I think that you'd be looking at about 25% of the total price including the shipping costs. I've got a feeling that import duty is around 5%, and then VAT is a further 20% on top of that.
For the Norwegians, surely the solution would be to buy a cheap flight over to the UK, pick up the jacket from the Aero factory, and reclaim the VAT at the airport.
Whether or not you declare it upon reaching Norway is up to your own conscience. ;)
Ironheart have delivery built into their prices. Aero charge separately, as do Insurrection.
The UPS charge is probably for customs. Shipping companies often levy a further fee to cover collecting any duties due.
You could order your jacket through Insurrection. They're currently charging $1099, which works out at around £700. This is a bit more than it would be direct from Aero, but customs duties would already have been paid, and shipping will be cheaper. Ironheart also have a flat price worldwide, but...
I saw Will's own Highwayman at the Goodwood Festival a few weeks back, and it looked fantastic. So I'd suggest following Aero's instructions of "do nothing", and abuse the jacket for the next twenty years. At that point you'll probably need to replace the lining, but the leather will be great...
I really like the Goodwear M422, but it's really not cheap at $1399.
Aero and Eastman both do cheaper alternatives, at under $1000.
I've only briefly seen a couple of Eastman jackets up close. I've got a feeling that they are more historically accurate than Aero, but perhaps not as well...
Aero will be starting their annual shutdown on Friday, and the factory will be closed for a fortnight.
So if you've got any burning questions then I suggest emailing the indefatigable Amanda now.
That's not me, though the guy in the photos has a similar amount of hair. :D
The photos come from the Aero Leather Japan website. I'm sure if you sent Amanda an email, and said, "I want this one" then she'd accommodate.
I do own an old, black Hercules, though. With wear the leather has dulled...
The Aero Leather Japan gallery has a few shots of a Cheyenne with a sheepskin collar, which should give you a feel of what the Barnstormer would look like.
There are a couple more on the linked page, along with a few pictures of a standard Barnstormer.
The shawl collar is a...
I think that Edward's probably right. Jeans tend to be 2" to 4" larger around waist than labelled. Then there are those who claim to be one size, whilst their overhanging belly would suggest otherwise. :)
If Aero had taken Rudie's actual waist size to be his jeans size then that would have...
I think that problem is that Aero assume a 6" or so drop between chest and waist. From your thread, it looks like you're 40" and 32" respectively, giving an 8" drop. Hence tapering from a size 40 to a 38 in your jacket achieves the correct fit.
It's even worse if you're trim, but with a broad...
