I've got a feeling that the Aero / Ironheart shirts are $1200, not $1050, including postage. But you'd have to have a chat to Giles at Ironheart UK about them.
The deerskin feels like a thick, soft and tough chamois leather. It is really nice in a do you take internal organs way. I'm very...
I've just had an email off Amanda, and the official word is that there are two types of Kudu:
The first lot was heavy, like the FQ horsehide.
The second lot is softer, but still thick and supple, more like deerskin.
I saw the Ironheart / Aero deerskin shirt a couple of weeks ago, and that...
I've asked Amanda, and will post the response.
I believe that Aero have a few hides that don't show up on the website. It might be worth asking what odds and ends they've got squirrelled away.
If I got a Pioneer, and I'm very tempted, I'd remove the half belt, and end up with a much...
I'd like one of the Pegasus Safari Jackets in Cherry. But I don't think that they have that leather as an option. :(
I think either something with a bit of a Seventies look, or a very simple jacket, would work best. I need to have a think on this one.
I was very tempted by cherry when I got my last Aero a few years back, and I rather regret I didn't go that way. Amanda advised against it that time.
Next time... :D
Schitzo, since you're in London it might be worth having a chat to Giles at Ironheart. I don't know if he's any more knowledgeable than the guys at Insurrection (probably not, as Wade strikes me as much more of an obsessive :D), but there seems to be a certain amount of experimentation going on...
Does it really matter if historically A2s used a hide that's lighter than Aero's FQHH?
If you're buying a jacket to wear, rather than as a re-enactor or collector, then accuracy isn't as important, so get what you like. But I don't think that the Vintage Leather Jacket forumites would...
I found one picture of the Hippy being worn on a Taiwanese site.
You could get it made up in a different hide, alter the pocket configuration, and so forth.
Jan's suggestion of a Cheyenne is a good one. I thought that it was a looser fitting design than it is.
If you took a Stuart or Teamster, tweaked the position of the button holes, gave it some Pimptastic lapels, made it a bit more fitted (Thirties Halfbelt pattern), lost the side adjusters, replaced the pockets with a suit style, and added the yoke from the Western Shirt then you'd end up with...
A few people have Pegasus jackets round here, and the proprietor posts from time-to-time. They look nice in the pictures, but I haven't seen one in the flesh.
No idea if they do custom work. Drop them a line and ask.
I like the jacket you found, ChubbMuff.
I believe that Aero used to do a blazer style, so if you ask they might be able to dust off the pattern. Whilst it's not a blazer, they do a version of the Type III in leather. Someone on another forum has just ordered one.
Whilst it's not what...
It's been mentioned before, but the Nigel Cabourn Coastal Command sold for £2175. It was manufactured by Aero, and their most expensive sheepskin coat is the B7 Arctic Parka at £900. So you're paying at least £1200 for the label.
I like some of the designs used in contemporary high-end leather...
Windward, there's one solution to that: Buy a pair of red shoes. :)
I'm interested in the natural horsehide too. If it ages down to a golden colour, which I suspect it will, then it'll look very good eventually.
