G'day folks,
I received my Bill Kelso house A-2 during the week, having taken eight days in the post from Greece to rural Australia. I'm delighted with the jacket and the service received from Andy and Platon.
The jacket is sized 42, and is very comfortable to wear. I was initially wondering whether it was a bit bigger than I'd have liked, after wearing it for a few days, I'm very happy with the fit and feel. Compared to the cheap knock-offs I have sized 40, my Kelso A-2 is really quite comfortable and not at all restrictive. I find that I can move comfortably when I drive and ride, and the jacket doesn't ride up all the time. I work out, so my upper torso and arms are a pretty snug fit, while there is room to move in the bottom. Finding a jacket to suit my body shape has been a challenge, and I feel that this jacket 'fits the bill'. In 2005, I was 145kg (320lbs) and I've since worked myself down to about 78kg (170lbs) with a change of diet, and a lot of exercise. Having started working out, I've built up some muscle, but am still kinda loose around the waist. A big incentive for me to keep motivated with my exercise and good eating was the desire to own a high-quality A-2. it's what I've worked towards, and after a couple of mall jackets in bigger sizes, I'm happy that I've found one which looks and feels right. I've found plenty of wartime shots of men wearing jackets which aren't skin-tight and I'm happy with this.
Twenty two years ago, I started a savings account to put money aside for a decent A-2 repro. Didn't happen, sadly. Back then, I was only aware of Eastman, and I figured that it'd cost me around five hundred Australian dollars, and the jacket I've just bought cost less than this. My next one will only be a couple of hundred more, for an original maker's pattern jacket. So, quality doesn't have to break the bank, especially for people like me, with a young family and a foster-daughter who has many medical high-needs but a beautiful heart.
So, if anyone is wondering about the quality of Bill Kelso's A-2 jackets and the company's service, I can only speak of them in the highest terms. Platon was gracious and helpful with his words and advice. Andy patiently responded to my very many emails and questions, and talked me through the whole process. I'm already planning my next Bill Kelso jacket, a russet original maker pattern. But that's for 2013. Bill Kelso, you have a very satisfied customer in rural Australia.
