Well I know Gary has invested time and money in finding a tannery to create this type of leather and they do look good generally. I did buy a couple of house B3 's and Anj4's, a RW B3 and B6,a Perry B3 and an Irvin. So I know them well and they cost me quite a sum so it was a wrench to sell...
We older buyers ( the ones with the money )just don't like it sorry. Unfortunately there is no choice but Broken Grain so I don't buy them any more, only older jackets. I asked Gary last week if he would do a retro range but he said no.
Real McCoy's can only sell into Japan under the Few label for copyright reasons. I understand that the NZ $ is very strong against against the Yen,this has made them less competitive.
Just heard over on VLJ that the world's premier maker of sheepskin repros is closing down. Very sad.
Just heard evidence to the contrary fingers crossed..
I very much doubt that new jacket in 1940 would look 70 years old. They were just jackets. Gary is deliberately making something that looks aged, the dull faded wool, the creased skin the suggested wear . Surely that's obvious ?
Check this out...
A politician might answer ' what evidence do you have they did ? '!
No seriously, we all know that materials change over time. Leather dries out, it wrinkles and it hardens to give the characteristic look that we all love so much. They are truly stunning jackets but I have found that most...
Yes mint 70 year old jackets. But they would have changed over the 70 years so would have looked very different in 1940 or when ever they were made. The Perry looks very close to the originals you show which are stunning, but surely a truly accurate reproduction of something should not be...
I think you must be correct. Rob Brace sent me dimensions of a 42 and looks much bigger than mine was. I wonder if it could have been a mis-labelled 40 ?
I have had very many b3's including the SFAD. Probably ten Eastman's, two Aero's and five RMNZ. The Perry was the least wearable unfortunately.
If you own one then try the test of fastening both neck straps. I found it impossible to hold my arms up long enough to do it because of the binding...
Doubly sad as it was a very special batch that from what I can see is even better than the current ones. The seal skins had a red base coat and much more character than the current ones.
Very beautiful to look at but sadly I had to sell mine because of the fit. I just couldn't lift my arms above shoulder level and the very hard cuff seams dug into my wrists
