Seal leather samples for ANJ-4 poll

Chalk and cheese. Older the better every time. This one has the seal hh trim so is better than the cheaper Steerhide version which was russet. I just prefer the dense pile of the Merino fleece. I also prefer the snaps on the pockets and throat latch ; the button pockets are less practical. I...

    Aero Anj4

I would stay on spec. with the shearling length as the pattern will be based on the original designation and fit could be compromised. The stitching sounds great but why not go for the Vincenza horse ?

Eastman Irvin RAF sheepskin repro sizing

I have owned about 10 of these jackets in the past 20 years of all sizes and quality and the one thing I have learned is that they come up small with short arms. The fit looks ever so slightly tight to my taste. I am a similar build across the shoulders but lighter in weight but still prefer a...

    Not impressed ELC

I think I am correct in saying that original jackets were made from sheepskin. Jackets today are usually made from lambskin,( sheep under 1 year old ) it has much thinner skin and the hides are quite small some only a couple of feet long. I know tanning methods can puff up the thickness of...

The skins are definitely better if you are lucky you can find a very old unworn example. The pliability of the leather makes them so comfortable to wear.

Eastman Irvin RAF sheepskin repro sizing

I didn't see any samples before the batch ran out. As I have said many times to the point of boring every one silly I don't like any of the new skins that much. The older the better for me, and I mean really old 25 years a plus if possible. My two Irvins my B3 and a long gone Anj4 were 1980's...

Interestingly about two months Gary told me that the current batch of skins was the best yet !

Eastman Irvin RAF sheepskin repro sizing

Charles I would say that you jacket is too small. The arms are too short as is the body. If you look at originals being worn the cuffs come down to the knuckles. This is because the Irvin was designed to be worn in an open cockpit and the wrists had to be protected when the arms were raised above...
