Is leather weight estimated only by thickness or is it actually weighed? I am wondering because it seems that certain leathers are listed as being heavier or equal to others in weight but are certainly lighter.
Could it be that leather is weighed before the oils and waxes are put into it? In...
I was wondering where these coats fit in the U-Boat jacket history. They are Reichswahr troops, 1919. The jackets was originally a French design for the armoured car and motor transport crews. The facings are said to be black cloth.
If we were all perfectly round cylinders, sizing would be easy. Instead we are each a unique shape of complex curves and angles. I have a good rapport with an expert tailor nearby, so when it comes to shirts and sport coats I am well taken care off. Communication and trust going both ways is...
Having grown up in a typical Philadelphia row home neighborhood, I am not put off by Stu's manner. I have come to realize though, that those big city east coast mannerisms aren't understood or appreciated in other parts of the country.
Two things that do put me off: First, the leather, which...
Carlos, My chest goes 37.5 and my waist at 30.5. I am 5'6". I think it is larger than normal, though some here are bigger. Could be I am still living a decade in the past in my mind, when my drop was big.
One more question since you guys are so experienced. I don't disagree that they are both a size large or even two sizes as dan_t said ( at least in the case of the Aero). But are you seeing that in the front as well as the back? Could I drop two sizes and still fit the chest and waist...
Thanks again for the help.
The first is an Aero cafe racer size 36, used as a fit jacket. I feel it fits better around the chest and waist, but the back looks strange. Could be me, but where the arms attach at the gussets doesn't seem clean. Especially on the left side from the back view...
Ok, the front view of both.
Thanks for the replies so far.
Does anyone notice anything strange about the left back of the first jacket, at the shoulder gusset or am imagining things?
Love to hear people's experiences with bison and kangaroo. I once read that kangaroo leather smelled horrible, though I susoect it wasn't the kangaroo's fault but rather the fault of the tannery.
I am told that taking a jacket to a leather tailor is probably not worth it. It is supposed to be very expensive and also difficult to find a good one. I would need the hem shortened by 1 or 2 inches, assuming the pockets don't get in the way making it impossible.
I am told that starting...
Here's a real nitpicky question for you dan_t. Do you feel the shoulder seams are over the line where your shoulder ends and the arm begins? I am guessing they might be made to be a bit wider than a typical shirt where the seams sit right at the turning point. I am having a bit of trouble...
There was some talk about the Aero oil pull ghorsehide a while back, but I think the conclusion was that there is a new batch with different qualities now.
How does the current oil pull rank in terms of insulation and waterproofing? I had a sample many years ago and it was beautiful, close to...
