BobJ: Good points. I suspect the next size down would be too restrictive. Carrie has said it might even require a lighter lining and lighter leather as well.
So....looks like I am set. A bit off the lenght, sleeves and a few detail mods and I am good.
Just one thing: Horse or steer for...
It is different. It is more of a cool black. It isn't as if it will turn heads, but I think people will notice it as an interesting looking black. I always thought it would be better in a big coat, like a Mariner or Barnstormer where I suspect the larger amount of leather would make the...
Jacketjunkie; I understand, although my worry is losing weight as i get older. I used to be 155 with 4% fat. I am now 135 (at age 51). I'm not sure if i'll end up shrinking or expanding. I had to ditch two jackets and a closet full of custom clothes because i shrank a bit in the upper body...
Protein Nerd: The Cafe racer was huge in the back and shoulders. I would have had to size down two sizes and then I doubt the waist would have fit. I always considered myself broad shouldered for my height, with a 7 inch drop chest to waist, but I suppose the cafe racer is cut for a broad...
And thank you everyone for the help.
Nick123: The Sunburst is just the fit jacket. I would get the regular 30s HB. I appreciate the back design of the Sunburst, but it is not me at all. While i admire them on others, I like plain for myself, not patterns. I won't even wear socks with a...
Sorry for the bad pictures but it is snowy and very grey here and that was the most light I could get in the whole house.
sloan1874 and capesofwrath: It is tough to tell from the pictures but the shoulder seams are actually where they should be, for the most part. Not hanging off the...
After my last fit jacket failure, I spent a month or so sulking-I really wanted that Sheene.. Finally, I picked myself up off the floor and got a fit jacket for a 1930's half belt. The jacket shown is a sunburst, which has the same 1930's cut.
I am not sure about the length of the...
Speedy,
That is odd. I am 5'6" and a 25 length would be too long. It must be the something in style of the cafe racer where the creases or the form fitting lower back takes up an inch or two that would otherwise hang straight down. Not sure.
Or it could be how you wear your pants.
That FlatHead cafe racer doesn't have the leather overlapping the zipper like the Aero does, so the creasing could hardly happen. It also exposes the zipper which may or may not be a problem for some people. Doesn't bother me either way.
Lewis Lethers emailed me and said they don't send out samples. They gave me some details however, on the different leathers they use.
From the email:
"Current hides available to choose from at Lewis Leathers are:
Cowhide - Available only in black, with a thickness of 1.1mm - 1.3mm, sourced...
Carlos purchased this a few years back. I understand LL has changed leathers once or twice. They now list a 1.1-1.3 oz cowhide as standard. Anyone have any updated info? I did request a sample, so if they send one, I'll post test results.
Seb, it is prominent on the j100 and designs based on that model for sure. I have seen it on many half belts and always thought it might be a little uncomfortable in cold weather as it doesn't seal out the cold air. I think much of the flare is from tightening th straps, so the extra taper...
"No Flare to Skirt" is what I am told I should ask for from Aero if I want a half belt that tapers all the way down past the belt to the hips. I have seen at least one example here on TFL of such a half belt.
Has anyone had this done and how do you like wearing it after some time? Does...
The most recent samples I got from Aero don't fit that description. The top coat is very, very thin and it only takes a little kneading and folding of the sample top turn it nearly brown. This is different than the older Aero samples I had which maintained their color much longer.
Personally...
