Well we all know everything is a Whippet......well most everything.....what is left appears to be an Open Road!!
EVERY Hat Pictured was listed as an actual OR......
THIS is a Blue Open Road (with Feather accents)!
THIS is listed as a OR CLONE!!!:D
(And YES, it is suede).
This...
OR worn for that day then put away until it comes up in rotation again........at least that is what I do.
Now I do have daily drivers, work hats, and "grab and go" hats of which I have about 6 at any given time that see a lot of use.
But, even they get rotated in and out every month or two...
I think you may be right. It looks differant from the one I know he had...which itself could be an american western. Brits called it a slouch.....like a wide brim artists hat..
I was mainly looking at Eisenhowers.
This one looks interesting too.....
PS: These are all...
In that first picture he looks old and worn by time.......LOVE his coat!
Yep...in the second picture with Churchill he has his dark Homburg/Fedora. Churchill looks like he has his wide brim slouch from the war......Here is the same pic from another angle and in color.
Who is the person in...
Both Truman and Eisenhower did wear other hats too.....ESPECIALLY Eisenhower who seems to have been photographed in every hat imaginable.......
I have photographs of them both in other hats, Truman in a regular wide ribbon fedora and an optimo straw, but mostly the pinched OR. Eisenhower liked...
AND....here are a couple of Stetson ads showing how they see their hat, note they generally show them with the "rancher" or "cattleman" crease.....though there are many newspaper ads showing them with a fedora pinch. Truman typically always wore his brim up with a fedora pinch as shown in this...
Absolutely have had this same reaction if I leave my hat behind........same for business dress events where I am quite known for my bow ties and chose to wear a long tie.....(usually forgiven if I wear a tri-fold cravat).;)
It is absolutely this, as Bob says......I have a few of them. They are nice in that you have a key with you that does not have to hang as a fob of sorts......
And two keys used as fobs.....I think the key takes away from my hat fob......crowds it actually.
I have a decidedly 60's Open Road RD that has a wind cord....they even used them on their stingy Stetson Twenty's and Twenty-Fives in the 60's too......so not at all unusual. What is unusual but fits the price point of $40 is your 5X. Especially as a 7X was a $50 hat for a good many...
Interesting you say that....the US Army and Navy (Marines too) also have green underside (sometimes a light grey for the Navy, and I have seen Navy helmets that are all green or grey) on their Tropical helmets from the 20's through the 50's and I do see modern ones made the same.
Arrived today from One 2 Mini Ranch..........:)
Pictured with my new Campdraft is an older first Cousin a Circa 1955 Army Slouch also made by Akubra.....
I REALLY like the contrast of the ribbon work!
Yes, it does LOOK new in the pictures.....will be interested to see how it actually turns out. In any event it was reasonable enough for a modern one. I really don't like the low crown on them but what the heck.....my next purchase will be a Campdraft in Sand (or what ever they call it).....I...
