Have you thought about the possibility that you are so focused on the trees you can't see the forest?
Would you enjoy the larger jacket more if it was 50gr heavier than smaller one?
Yes it is possible.
Different leathers are tanned differently.
CXL for example is packed with waxes and oils, and that adds weight. At equivalent thickness CXL will be heavier than a "dry leather" of esimilar thickness that isn't stuffed with waxes.
The weight difference could also be due to...
My Vanson CHP 2 is probably the one with the least flare when worn open:
Aero Bootlegger has also little flare:
And RMC JH-1:
From quickly looking at pics, it seems that the less overlap there is by design the less the lapels will flare open when unzipped.
These three definitely have a...
Any asymetrical cross zip will do that when open, some do it more than others...
It doesn't depend on brand but on specific design.
My LW LT/A for example really flares open when unzipped, but it has very large lapels:
My LW perfecto does it a bit less:
And my J-24 even less...
Glue might help or it might not, it depends how perpendicular to the leather the cut is and how deep.
Either way it won't get worst unless you play with it.
Leather is fibrous, it's not like a crack in glass that will keep on getting bigger. You could still wear this jacket for twenty years...
I can't tell for sure, but the markings are very similar to what is common on the draw/back of thick horse hide...
It definitely doesn't look like FQHH, but it could be made from horse backs.
Or something completely different.
Here is my jacket showing similar grain on horse:
It looks just like my Legendary USA branded one that is also made by Schott, same shiny horse hide:

Do you know when yours was made?
Edit: Actualy, yours has a different center seam in the back, weird that they...
Honestly its not worth the time it would take to me.
It's not like the jacket is unwearable, it just feels like a LW/CXL hybrid to the touch.
I don't enjoy it and wouldn't do it to any of the other LW jackets i own, but i don't hate it enough to want to fix it...
It didn't drink a drop.
It feels coated in a thick layer of wax and grease, it is sticky and heavy.
You feel the difference wearing it compared to a LW that hasn't been greased up.
To me this thread is a demonstration of what not to do....
The coating hasn't changed in composition, only in thickness.
Old and new LW hides are both resin coated leather and neither will really absorbe anything.
The only preventative maintenance i do on jackets is cleaning the back collar and inside of the wrists with a damp cloth a couple times a year. I then quickly wipe it with my "Pecard's rag" without adding any pecard to the cloth.
The natural greasiness of the cloth is enough, i don't want to...
