Oh, and I just thought about another silly pet peeve of mine: people wearing blue shoes AND blue belt. That's taking the "matching the leathers" rule (especially since most of the time the blue belt is a not leather, but a ribbon belt) way too far, and they end up looking forced and foolish...
Folks, let's not forget the obnoxious omni-presence of "distressed" clothing among the contemporary offering.
I'm not talking vintage (obviously), but artificially aged and weathered: I'm talking about sandblasting denim, using sandpaper on leather, yellowing white sneaker soles before they come...
I few years ago I went to the bank where I recently got an account at and they sent me to speak with one of their employees . He was wearing a big loose dark green polo shirt (didn't see the bottoms as he was sitting down) with the buttons all undone and looked like he just got done mowing his...
Here in Italy, they would be too many to keep track of.
What bothers me is that, for the most part, people think they are being uber-fashionable and hip, trying to imitate a picture they've seen on a magazine or fashion blog and coming out looking mercifully clueless.
I am sure some people...
Do you folks know who makes boots like these ones?
They look a little different and more streamlined than standard wedge sole boots. These pictured ones are from a brand called Rhino; they are pretty inexpensive but apparently only available online.
What I don't like about wedge work boots is that the moc toe usually looks too "boxy", for example compared to the Indy boots @Edward mentioned.
I've recently seen these boots by Dickies, though, where it looks somewhat less pronounced and I'm considering them.
Why yes, you can buy it and be awesome too!

Don't know if it counts, but a few years back I took a long string of thick black leather about 1/2" wide, added snaps to the ends and have worn it now and then wrapped around my wrist.
How do you folks feel instead about wearing all white (with white sole) leather shoes, like the ones worn by US Navy Officers?
I've recently picked a pair of these Bates ones, almost new, for a few bucks on the bay, but have no clue how/if I'll wear them.
Hi Sean, welcome,
I recall reading that traditionally the feather placed in a hatband was from a bird of a local (to the hat wearer location) species.
This is of course not done anymore. Maybe you could just pick an Irish wild bird feather for it?
Generally speaking, I think the rule is that pinstriped jackets, or any jacket that looks obviously as part of a two piece suit, does not work with odd trousers.
Great thread! I have a passion for (and a small collection of) Swiss Army knives, as well as single bladed tradititional folders.
This is my latest acquisition:
It's an Italian traditional "fisherman" knife. It's handmade, with the handle made out of solid water buffalo horn tip, and the...
