The older Scala hats were made in the Czeck republic by Tonak so the hats are decent for the money. But the newer ones are made in China so be careful what you buy.

We use an item similar to this that is made in Germany. It is made of a molded piece of plastic that protects the hat when a person grabs it by the crown.

Nothing is cheap in London! The pound is worth over 2 dollars now so a hat that is 150 pounds will cost you 300 $. Not a time to buy a hat in England.

The only other place in NY to repair hats is Palace Hats at 53-12 16th Ave in Brooklyn. They are nice people but dont expect a meracle . Unfortunately , they deal in the religious black hat trade so everything is black ! It is very difficult to get any other color band for a hat. I wish we had...
I dont think that the hats are made in Japan. I went on their website and they mentioned that they have a sister company for hats in China called Lihua. This the the largest hat company in China today. They probably make the hats for Fuji.

No, all jet knapp is just buffing up a wool body. What some of the companies are trying to do now is mix wool with either fur felt or cashmere . There is a term called Dyna felt which has been used for years . This is a mixture of 90% wool and 10 % fur felt. Now Bailey Hats is using a mixture of...
I dont think anyone wants to see my ugly mug on the lounge!!One of these days I'll post my favorite hat that I wear around the shop.

The traditional boater is made in Italy today. Due to the downfall of the US dollar , look to see the price on a new one to be around 100.00 US . I have seen a copy made here in the US that will sell for less, but it isnt as rigid. Sort of a poor mans version. As for shortening the brim, no way...
That hat is old. Probably from the 1940's. The price that was written in the hat was made by an antique store . No hat store would write the price on the leather.
#1 quality from Stetson was one of their best..

Lagomarsino
We dealt with them for two years. They made great hats but they had a major distribution problem here in the USA . They lost a lot of money. We are still selling their suede western hats on our website.
As for their felt hats , the problem is that they dont have a lot of blocks...
The article that was in the NY Times was written by a very entusiastic young woman that is a hat admirer. She was in our store last and took a lot of pictures for a bigger project that she hopes will get published soon.
JJ's is the best hat store in Manhattan today. I will always recommend a...
We are working on updating the website where it will show all of the colors for each hat. A lot of work but judging from all of the emails and requests, well worth it.
Stay tuned!!!

I would also like to pay a nostalgic price. I have found receipts in our store dated from the 1950's. The average price for a hat back then was 10.95 !!-and that was for a good hat.
I dont think we had a hat then for more than 20.00.

The hat can be ordered any way a store wants to provided that they buy enough of a style. Typically, it would have to be 24 of a color to start but this can vary from style to style.
If enough loungers are interested and it seems many are, we can get the ball rolling for the new hat...
We would start with the most popular color- Carabou Gray, then we could get other colors such as black or brown . As for production times , we would be looking at 8 to 10 weeks. The welting will help the hats last longer. I had one made up in a beaver quality hat for a special FL member. It took...
Stetson Nostalga
I was able to see a sample last week . It's an interesting hat if you like a 22line band on one. Stetson is trying to duplicate the style worn during the 1930's.
The hat has a 2 1/2" brim and is available open crown. When they made it last time which was 10 years ago , we...
I have to side with Gus on this one. To convert a Stetson Rancher into a fedora is a lot of work. It would be easier to convert a homburg into a fedora as these two hats are both dress weight felts. I dont know how much Gus told you it would cost to convert the hat into a snap brim fedora, but...
If you are talking about the Borsalino Virgilio , I wouldn't buy it. We were offered the hat, but for the extra money, it wasnt worth it . We have a Como by Borsalino for 210.00 that is just as nice as well as quite a few other hats in stock by Borsalino that are sharp looking. I'm sure that...
We carry a large selection of caps from Jonathan Richards which are made in Dublin . They are great caps and were our best sellers durinf the holiday season. The only problem with them are once a pattern sells out, you cant duplicate it again. But as for quality, I think they are the best made...
The hat is in fact made of rabbit felt. It is made in China. Even so at that price it is worth the money.
Dorfman Pacific has a full line of these hats in their fall catalog.
