Yes, but give him a few days. He just got married and is probably honeymooning. ;)
Like I said, John is a nice guy. We are lucky to have him here on this forum. He is not here because of the business, as he is a western hatter and isn't here to hock his hats. Wrong board for that. I think...
Perhaps another hatter here has an unmarked one that he would sell ya. If I had one that did not have my company name on it, I would just give it to you. Any that you get will probably come not sewn together. You would have to cut it to size, and then use a ferrule on the reed and stitch it...
If you have the Bee Indy 500 model in a 7 1/4, I am interested. I bought one years ago, and would just want it as a collectable to add to my other Indy fedora knockoffs. Fedora
I have the source, but it is hard to talk to him if you are not in the business. He is the genuine article. What I need to do is to just go to the factory when I get time and get it from the horses mouth,(tape it on a mini tape recorder) and post his words here. One of the reasons I have not...
I do in fact have an agenda. I admit it. I want to discover the exact reason for vintage hats being very taper resistant(even the cheap ones that should not be so), in order to help modern hats. That is all. Knowing what I know about how the better quality modern felt is made, versus vintage...
My opinion is that is a fine old family, and dating one of them would be a step up for ya.lol I say........go for it. :) Is she a pretty lady? Ok, I just could not help myself. Watching Seinfeld just now must have influenced me. :p Fedora
I wish I could be positive as well. I am not positive(as that would be intellectually dishonest) that a new Stetson aged 50 years would not be taper resistant. Admit it, you actually do not know. Things that folks are positive about require proof. And of course, that idea you submitted is not...
I hope you do that, as you are probably young enough to see the results. I think even that low quality Stetson would be more taper resistant than it was when new, but until someone actually does the test, we will not know-for sure. If time affects fur, in the same manner than time affects...
Should felt hats be worn in the rain? Simple enough question. Yeah, just like you wear your shoes in a rain. Is a felt hat the best raingear out there? Nope. While you can wear a felt hat in the rain, if you are planning on being in a long, hard rain, please invest in suitable raingear. ;) Oh...
Well, not entirely Wildroot. :) Hats were worn by some folks as protection from the elements, but later on, a hat was worn for more important reasons. Fashion, style, and status. Back in the day, you could tell a man's position in life by the hat that he wore. Sort of like folks driving...
That above pic is a rounding jack. That was not what I was talking about, being sold by B and L. You said they referred you to a local store? Do they not sell these anymore?
Rounding jacks are very expensive to buy these days, new ones that is. I lucked up and got one from an ebay seller who...
Others might care, before they invest. I owned 3. My advice is keep away from rain. If the sky is cloudy, take no chances unless you own an umbrella.
With that said, I liked mine very much, but they are fair weather hats. Strictly a dress hat due to the issue with rain. Fedora
You can get one reasonably from B and L Products, out of Oregon. It clips on the edge of the brim and a blade takes off either 1/8 an inch, or 1/4 depending upon which one you buy. It maintains the original facotory oval.
A rounding jack is hard to find, but JW Hats used to sell his for...
Could be that JP, or as simple as a crack in the brim flange. I have one that is cracked and it yielded that vein, until I patched up the crack. My last hat from Optimo had one of these on the crown, due to a crack in the vintage block used to produce the hat. I was ok with it, when Graham told...
Well, not quite. :) In order to prove this, one would have to do so 50 years from now. Take a high quality body made today, turn it into a hat, and then let it sit for 50 years. If it tapered once it got wet, then the theory would be proven. But, we can't do that today. If the hat was taper...
That line that Stetson puts out uses finishing powder to make the color nice and even. This powder bleeds out if you get the hat wet. You are left with color on your collar and a less even color on the hat itself. That is my personal experience. Fedora
Ah, please point me to your source kind sir. I would love to read what was said about this. I do agree folks refurbed their hats as well as re-soled their shoes. We used to have 3 shoe repair shops here when I was a kid and now we have just one left. So, I agree that hats were refurbished, but...
No I don't agree completely, I think aging would actually improve the felt, somewhat. How much is the question. But, aging a modern Stetson will not yield a hat on par with what we are currently getting from ebay in the vintage hats. Aging some of the better felt around by storing them would...
