Hello all,

I've bought what appears to be a Stevens fedora. I've cleaned the hat up, and the only problem appears the be the sweat band, which crumbled into dust when I touched it.

Where can I get the leather material to make a sweat band out of? It shouldn't be to hard to put in once I find it, but finding 1 1/2 wide leather trim is turning out to the a problem.

Perhaps another hatter here has an unmarked one that he would sell ya. If I had one that did not have my company name on it, I would just give it to you. Any that you get will probably come not sewn together. You would have to cut it to size, and then use a ferrule on the reed and stitch it together. It helps to put a little flange in the leather, but that may be more than you want to tackle. It doesn't have to be flanged, as you see many hats that do not do this. Good luck. Fedora

replacement sweat band

Dear Fedora,

The hat is a Stevens, which uses a two-part sweat band. The first part is a foundation, which attaches to the hat, and the second part is the band itself, which attaches to the foundation. All I need is a suitable leather peice, and I'm good to go...

I would ask you first to try Marc at Adventurebuilt Deluxe

Yes, but give him a few days. He just got married and is probably honeymooning. ;)

have done this before with other lounge members with other items as well. I don't ever charge for these items but rather it's just part of the gratis side of my business

Like I said, John is a nice guy. We are lucky to have him here on this forum. He is not here because of the business, as he is a western hatter and isn't here to hock his hats. Wrong board for that. I think he just likes folks who like hats!!! :) Fedora
