As of the following wednesday I will live in southern China. Really. I've taken a contract that ties me down till early July.
Edit: I have been hoping to find time, but a 9-10 hour drive (each way) is no small commitment of time. Even if I'd flown, it would mean taking time off work...
Here are some of the jackets, with comparatively confusing sizing, from Thurston's website.
First off, two size 44" Cafe Racers:
Both are a full inch bigger PtP than Aero list size for a 46" jacket! And two inches bigger than their own listing.
Here's a 42" Cafe Racer from Thurston's:
It...
Might as well throw my measurements in again, especially as I lost 10lbs since this thread began!
Height: 6'1
Weight: 215lbs (sporty, not tubby)
Chest (relaxed): 43"
Chest (expanded): 45.5"
Stomach (at widest point): 36"
Waist (actual waist, not jeans size): 36" (I measured this at the point my...
Between work, holidays and sizing difficulties this 'getting me a jacket' process has slowed right down.
The sizing is the tricky bit for me it seems. The fit jacket (23.75" chest, 19.5" shoulders) was too tight in the chest but good otherwise, save the sleeves being too tight. If I move to...
Sorry, completely missed this message before. I meant to say that a bit of taper wouldn't hurt the look of the jacket, if your waist and hips are narrower than your chest it simply helps to look fitted, and avoids the excess material lower down. :)
That's a shame about the armhole being too tight. The taper in this jacket shouldn't change the appearance at all... aside from making for a better fit around the midsection.
In response to that Cafe Racer linked on the last page....

What a lovely set of measurements... Big thumbs up.
My favourite belt is double pronged... never seen it as harder to use than single prong, not in the slightest. I'd keep buying double pronged jean belts if they weren't so scarce.
I like a good flannel shirt too, it's just a challenge sometimes when they're sized small by certain brands... just because I have a large chest doesn't mean I want a big billowy waist opening...
Jacket above looks great!
One of my reservations about the heaviest leathers is sitting down with the jacket done up! Is it just a no no or does it become possible eventually? Hahaha
Sorry if you already stated... what leather did you pick for the final jacket? I still have to decide what brown or cordovan I want for mine. Torn between the brown CXL HH and the Vicenza Cordovan HH.
I hate jacket shoulders that slope off the side of a person's shoulders, and that's my issue with the cafe racer from Aero when trying to turn it into a J-100: shoulders are too wide compared to chest. It's not a suit jacket, there's no padding to keep the shoulder in the right place, so it...
Does the smaller size feel too small in the shoulders? It doesn't look too small for sure. The smaller size looks better all round, but the sleeves are too short.
And I'll second what someone said about fit looking perfect in pictures but being ridiculously restrictive in person, just cos it...
Sorry to dredge up such an old thread, but I thought this was interesting. That future show-through is what is making me unsure of whether to keep the internal panel- does it look bad or is it a nice feature that makes that back look unique? Hmmm... pics, anyone? :)
I received a sample of the new Cordovan Vicenza... that looks like lovely stuff too, which not many people have handled yet.
What kind of yoke will you go for? I fully agree with omitting the shoulder gussets and external kidney panel, by the way.
Personally I'd keep the inside pocket on...
