Still trying to figure out all this sizing stuff. I am glad I came down from that JC/Shinki high that I posted about, with enough money left to buy groceries. I don't think I would model anything myself, but now you all know my measurements. Oops, I did post fit pics of my new Aero. I'm not too far off from JC. He's probably a bit younger and in better shape than me, but I have more hair. Sorry JC.

I just thought of something. Maybe they should establish an age appropriate criteria, in addition to all the other measurements. I think the LW Buco J100 size 44 fits like 42 that just went up on classifieds and the bay, is really beautiful. I think it is pretty close to my numbers, and interestingly the HBD I just bought was a "42 fits like 44". But, that is a real biker jacket, and again I don't ride. I bet I couldn't even get into my Prius wearing that.

OK, i'm going to have another cup of coffee and calm down now.

These guys are making some very cool "Lewis Leathers- inspired" jackets out of sheep:
http://addict-clothes.com/products/leather-jacket/

I've been told sheep of lamb tends to tear, but these do look like nice jackets. Don't see much in the way of Goat skin around. I know it was/is used in some A-1s and have seen a few civi jackets but not many.

Not enough depth of character, or patina? To pebble like, and no real grain?

This is my first post on this forum and warmly welcome all

Bill Kelso makes a decent jacket, but they have the worst customer service known to man.
I wouldn't buy a drink from them.

(Hi Andy, hope you are well, no need to send me threatening emails, i will not delete this post. Thanks.)

I now have a lawyer on 24-hour stand-by in case I receive any more of Andy's friendly missives.
Yep just a nice guy
Bill Kelso they may an interesting offer for example: Relic Hunter and A-2 jacket because this is the cheapest (350 pound for RH and 400 for A-2)of course depends on the skin but goatskin and cowhide for me is ok.

Great guy

Poul,

First and foremost, I am pleased to hear that you had a favorable experience with Andy/Bill Kelso. I hope your new jacket brings you much joy. That said, many here – me included – will never consider Andy a “great guy.” Among other things, Andy has:

• Referred to homosexual men as “faggots” and stated that BK’s customers “aren’t faggots.”

• Openly and overtly disparaged Aero, Thurston Bros., John Chapman and Dave Himel with grossly inappropriate and unprofessional statements.

• Accused TB and Horween of false advertising.

• Threatened to sue several TFL members.

• Publicly disparaged several TFL members in particularly harsh terms.

• Misappropriated my personal photograph, put it on BK’s Facebook page, then refused my numerous requests that he remove it.

The foregoing is the tip of the iceberg in terms of Andy’s and BK’s wildly unprofessional and reprehensible conduct that has led many here to refuse further patronage. The following two threads are instructive and worthwhile reading for anyone contemplating a jacket from BK:

http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/new-bill-kelso-model.85854/

To be clear, my personal opinions about Andy and BK are just that – my personal opinions – and I am not suggesting that anyone else adopt my opinions or cease doing business with BK. Others here have had, and continue to have, positive dealings with BK.

John does several different half belts, a café racer, two Cossacks, and a Grizzly. He's got a decent range of civilian jackets, and they cover most of the bases. I just don't think that they're as common as his military pieces.

The whole reproduction jacket thing has always puzzled me. It's ok to copy an original, but if you copy a copy, you're a thief?

Covered already, I think , but the legalities of it ared pretty simple. Copyright law doesn't typically cover clothing design (the law presumes clothing to be purely utilitarian when it comes to design, and therefore not worthy of protection), so you can copy any jacket you like, up to and including buying one, tearing it apart, and reverse engineering it. Patterns, however, are protected (chiefly to recognise the skill and effort that has gone into drawing them up and the grading across a size range), and copying those amounts to an actionable breach of copyright law.

Do any quality makers use lamb hide. I know that BK has Capeskin. From what I have read, most lamb hide or lamb skin jackets are junk fashion mall stuff.

Capeskin was originally the hide of goats from thed Cape of Good Hope, but now tends to refer to sheep or lambskin. Most British jackets from the vintage period were lamb or sheepskin; even a lot of the early classic British motorcycle jackets. One reason so few pre-war British jackets have survied, I believe. These days, it's not especially common. 'Capeskin' is often used in repros of A1s, as originally correct spec. Mostly these days lamb seemsto dominate in the fashion market, aS IT is cheap, easy to work with (compared to heavy horse and steer, for example), and serves a market where durability isn't priced in the same way as among folks like us. Wested use it a lot in their jackets which are more costume oriented: bear in mind that the vast majority of their Indy jackets will be unlikely to see a huge amount of wear outside of an air-conditioned convention hall. Also, lamb is what the on-screen original was made from (never under-estimate the anal-retentivity of movie fanboys - they're even worse than the A2 crowd. ;) ).

Lewis still make their jackets in a sheepskin today. Sheepkin, from a mature, adult sheep, is somewhat more durable than lambskin. Still light - closer to goat in many ways, though imo without the same level of strength - but a bit tougher than lamb. Notably, though, they also offer a tougher hide as an alternative; in the past this was cow, now it seems to be horse mostly. I'd certainly be much happier with the those heavier hides if I was looking for ajacket to actually wear on a bike.
