Stay a while-
Lots of us buy in thrift stores so no worries there. With patience and frequent visits you find fantastic bargains and save loads. They call them Charity Shops and Junk Shops in the U.K. I bought one of my Aero Highwayman jackets for £15 on a ‘Car Boot’ sale - that’s like a Yard...
Welcome - if you’re anything like me you’ll keep on upgrading your jackets as you find the bargains and follow the advice from here. I started with a Levi ‘Highwayman’ then replaced it with an Aero Highwayman and so on. It got out of hand when I found I’d got three Aero Highwayman jackets so I...
Looks like the Mouton liner is degrading. I once bought a jacket that had a ‘tear’ in the Mouton only to find the Mouton lining fell apart when I wore it
I must have struck lucky then as this one is quality- perhaps an early one made when they were trying to get a foothold in the market?
Thanks for the advice though, I won’t search out any others if they’re generally rubbish.
I’ve just picked up this well made mint biker jacket for £45. It’s of a similar build quality to a Schott Perfecto with embossed poppers heavy duty YKK zippers and a robust belt buckle. A bit of research shows that the business built up from a couple of shops in Toronto to 28 across Canada but...
It’s for this reason I place a metal measuring tape across the important dimension areas of my ‘for sale jacket pictures’
I tell them in the description that I’m aware it only shows approximate measurements but it gives a rough idea and cuts down on questions and arguments when on arrival they...
If the seller can’t be bothered to measure the jacket properly then steer clear of him/her. If you’re desperate to buy it then try the polite advisory approach, telling them if their measurements are way out then whoever buys will return it at the sellers expense as - ‘not as described’.
There are leather products used as a ‘final coat’ out there that consist of an acrylic (plastic), based solution. It’s possible that this sort of product was used either during production or maybe by a later owner of the jacket. If you look up Fiebings bag kote you’ll see what I mean. It should...
I’m really pleased with it- no red rot or crumbly cuff edges and its big enough - rare for vintage - fits nice -23” pit to pit 19” shoulders and 24” sleeves so a good fit for me at 43” snug chest.
My latest purchase - leather creased from poor storage but in good condition except the lining which needs a few patches. Can anyone give me a rough idea of its date of manufacture. My guess is 1950’s?
