If you are new to fountain pens buy a cheap cartridge filler with a steel nib to practice writing with. Buy a well known make of pen from a reputable pen shop or department store. Once you’ve got the hang of writing with it and are not pressing too hard, which will damage the posher flexible...
I’m referring to the blue RAF jacket by Aviation Leather Craft Seb, posted by Corsair24. Sorry for the confusion. I like the look of the black SWO jacket.
A friend has one of these - he’s not RAF so I’ll ask him his source. I also recently saw a nearly new one in a vintage clothing shop - I was tempted as it was heavy and well made but it’s blousy fit put me off.
I know you said Italian and Japanese but many of us rate US made jackets highly. If you’re going to Japan you may find vintage US made jackets in the vintage stores. Why not do an internet search for them in the area you’re visiting before you go?
Peracetic acid is produced when Acetic acid and Hydrogen peroxide are combined. It’s toxic and can irritate skin eyes and the respiratory tract. Vinegar and bleach are both good mould killers when used singly. (I knew some of this already but checked with Google anyway). Ive just discovered...
It’s a Windward in a good size too - very tempting! Looks like a replacement zipper - kinky stitching which has missed the original holes - I don’t think I could live with that.
It’s been on sale for ages - I asked the seller if I could inspect it (it’s a local seller). They said said I’d have to buy it and return it so I didn’t as I was a bit concerned especially given the water damage to the sleeve.
Thank goodness I checked back to your post to see the page number of the jackets. My ten minutes of searching only came up with gloves, gadgets, kids clothes and finally ladies lingerie (170) in the Spring 47 catalogue I checked
When I’ve had vintage leather chairs crack I’ve repaired them with a small same colour leather patch glued on the inside. First apply a small amount of glue on each of the crack edges. Hold the crack together until the glue holds. Then reinforce with the patch inside the jacket. I suppose you...
A mate has just bought this jacket but the label is missing. The Waldes zipper looks like a replacement as do the cuffs. Interestingly it has a stencilled USN under the collar and a perforated USN on the wind flap.
I’ve had a couple of Aero leather jackets re-lined and they reused the original labels. I reckon relining by the maker is the way to go if it’s possible to enhance the value. But only do this if you’re going to get some wear out of the jacket as the cost of a reline is often greater than the...
Now that’s interesting, I’ve never been asked to pay up front or to leave a deposit by Aero Leather either. Has their business practice changed recently or was the order taken by an agent with a different practice to Aero?
Asking any maker to change a design may be a mistake. They design them to work and if you do manage to persuade them to apply your changes you may end up with a franken- jacket that you hate with no recourse to return it because most firms sensibly insist that if you ask for modifications...
Looks like brute force has opened the puller wider (front to back) the front and back should be parallel for correct operation. If they’re at an angle to each other then gentle squeezing with suitable pliers may solve your problem. If that is the case squeeze it parallel with the puller at the...
