Yes I noticed that so deleted my post. He may have confused it with the other brand which turns up on eBay. Can’t see how he would be conflating £700 jackets with the cheap stuff the other posters there were talking about. Even if he thought they were crap he must have known they were not in...
Watched in when I was not much more than a boy. The whole series was repeated on a UK channel called Yesterday a year or so back. It was very good and well acted, but the rise and rise of the central character was a bit unlikely, and it seemed to lose touch when it moved into London society in...
There was a TV series on children’s TV back in the days when the world was black and white. I can’t remember the face of the eponymous lead but Ginger was played by little John Leyton. He was still playing the part when he recorded Johnny Remember Me with Joe Meek. It made him a pop star for a...
He never got old, he just stayed young and kept flying. A true Peter Pan figure. He wore the A2 when he was an 'air detective' post war if memory serves...

I always thought he made a lot of sense, and I don’t think Vinnie is him either. Don’t know why he was banned though I wasn’t visiting here much at the time. I come and go as the man said...
Well, I have absolutely no knowledge of these jackets or even interest in the furry things. But I do rather agree with what Voltaire never actually wrote… Not that I would die defending it. But he has the right to write what he likes and if anyone disagrees they should keep it civil.
Well it was Biggles in the Eagle strip for me. He used to fly around the Pacific islands in a Sunderland flying boat wearing an A2 in one story. God knows what he was doing. Ginger was never into leather though...
Horses for courses. If you want to dress like that to ride a bike than get the proper gear. I never wore stuff like that when I rode a bike but things change….
When I see some of the sports motorbikes around here weaving in and out of traffic at totally illegal speeds and their riders putting...
Well, I think I would pick a year in the nineties for the other half, and then I might enjoy my declining years more. But me, I’m not so sure I’d want to be young now. Looking at the way it’s all going I think I’d be better off dead before all the merde hits the fan.
If you look at contemporary pictures of G1 jackets as worn they are quite long and on the hips mostly. As were the M422 and A1 and 37J1 jackets.
I’ve posted that picture above in the past as proof that there is no such thing as an authentic A2 fit. Let alone any other flight jacket. People...
The lining can be just seen in the close up. It’s an olive fleece. I’ll put up another pic of where the brand label should be but I can’t see any sign that one or a size label was ever there. I suspect it never had them for whatever reason.
Yes, But that one has the front pockets almost enclosed by the piping and it's closer to them. Rather like a Montgomery Ward shearling lined one I had a little while ago, but sold on because it was a bit too well worn for me as a wearable jacket. That style of piping enclosing the pockets was...
Thanks tmitchell. Yes, you wrote on your Windward thread to the effect that some of these jackets are unidentifiable. This one might have been sold and branded by Sears, but it might equally have been sold by one of a number of other outlets too and branded by them. I doubt than anyone is likely...
A Whizbang was the name given to a type of German shell in WWI. Don’t know if it the word was coined by the soldiers or they just appropriated it and it had been used for a firework or something like that in the previous century . Pinning things like that down is difficult. But the word is a lot...
