They've said two different things. These screenshots are from different years, so not sure if the discrepancy is a running change to the formula or what. This was regarding the Premier Strat
And more recently, for a special edition Whippet, 70/30
I had a Worth and Worth Panama for a few days. I knew going into it I was paying a premium for the, shall we say, fashion forward design, which I didn't fundamentally have an issue with per se. And I knew that similar weave count Cuencas could be had for less (I really wanted a black wide brim...
There may have been some archaic reason a certain type of blocking machine needed the recessed part, or it might just be how some manufacturers made blocks. Either way, as far as I can tell, makes no functional difference to the contemporary hobbyist/small scale hatter.
Well, it doesn't have the dimensional brim of the Filson model, but that looks to me like it's more or less a Stetson Dune.

To quote Dave Foley from the most underrated sitcom of all time, Newsradio: "If what you're saying is true...then I still don't care."
If you had posted the poster in the first place, I would have glanced at your post and moved on. But tacking a generic appreciation for Jackson's "love for the...
For one, I think you overstate his influence considering the amount of contemporaneous fedora wearers. As noted, he's not particularly an influence on most of the regulars here. Indy had a far bigger impact.
For another, this is the movie hats thread and though forum digressions are an everyday...
Good to reiterate that there are so many variables here. Someone may need to fact check me on this, but I believe that the Royal quality Strat and the Premier Strat use different leathers. On the current Stetson site, the Royal Deluxe quality OR is specifically listed as having a Roan leather...
Akubras shrink because they use cheap leather. The thing about stretching the blank over the block is more pertinent to the shape of the block. Over time, the felt is trying to shrink back into a cone shape. This is why some hats taper when you get them wet.
A business client had a delivery for Bolinas, which is a little enclave on the coast in Marin, which is infamously off an unmarked road from Hwy 1. The town's residents tear down any signs pointing the way (hat tip to Google maps). I don't usually go that far out, but I'd never been and I like...
Well that actually may be a Boss of the Plains. Can you measure how tall it is and the width of the brim? And clearer picture of the tags inside? Or can you read what it says in the right side one? A Boss should be 4 1/2" tall with a 4" brim. Other models with the same general (block) shape do...
On uncle duty at Disneyland, HJ Raiders Poet. They have a walk around "Indiana Jones" character and we exchanged hat compliments (even though his was wool).
Just guessing, but looks like it is old enough to have been originally sold as an open crown hat. If so, there is no reference per se, other than the profile of the uncreased crown. Crease it as you like. Just go for it, it's not as daunting as it seems. Just keep steam away from the leather.
The stuff Guy Morse Brown is selling online as "galloon ribbon" is manufactured by T.W. Bracher in the UK and you can buy full spools online, but only up to 38mm width. This is the ribbon Herbert Johnson uses.
According to Wikipedia, "galloon ribbon" is the gold decorative trim used on military...
That ad, which I apparently screen capped, is a retailer ad. I did not interpret it as listing the hats by Stetson block number. How certain are we that this is the case?
