LOST WORLDS - Discovering some GREAT leather!

Thank you all for the kind words, gentlemen I'll try to post some more photos next spring, to show how the grain has developed. I'm sure I can get better close-up shots indoors... direct sunlight washes out too much detail.

    Custom Leather

Heh, heh. Yeah, maybe I should change my handle to "The Heretic". But the truth is that the one thing that puts Aero above a lot of others is their FQ horsehide (which I certainly agree is outstanding, and available nowhere else). Aero's quality of craftmanship is very good... but not the best...

LOST WORLDS - Discovering some GREAT leather!

Yeah, I know. I was just pokin' ya in the ribs... all in fun :D Nice avatar... and good to know your handle is not the result of being in the Witness Protection Program. I will, however, paint moustaches on all your avatars unless you post pictures when the new GW jacket arrives. lol

    Custom Leather

The better options have already been listed. To anyone not really set on Aero FQHH, both Vanson and Johnson Leathers are an even match for Aero quality. Langlitz quality is superior to Aero by a clear margin, as is Lost Worlds.

LOST WORLDS - Discovering some GREAT leather!

Dang, you're always at least one step ahead of me! :rage: On the other hand, I do have someone to blame for all the jacket purchases. :D My next purchase really is your fault... that J23 you showed off a while back convinced me that I just MUST have a LW Trojan, and I just placed the order...

LOST WORLDS - Discovering some GREAT leather!

Both are off-the-rack. The Roadhouse jacket was on sale as NOS, so no alterations were allowed. In this case, I ordered down a size to insure a trim fit, and the tactic worked beautifully... I love the fit. The cut of the Roadhouse pretty much demands a close fit in the body, so I took a chance...

LOST WORLDS - Discovering some GREAT leather!

Well, I've posted LW jacket photos before, so this does make me a repeat offender, anyway [bad] Of course, this is not intended to sully the reputations of respondents :D

LOST WORLDS - Discovering some GREAT leather!

Unfortunately, I cannot speak first hand of Good Wear quality, though everything I have read has been outstanding. Nor am I so much a fanatic or expert for period detail as some, but if John's work is as good as the reviews (and the photos on his website) suggest, Good Wear appears to be one of...

LOST WORLDS - Discovering some GREAT leather!

lol Granted, Stuart's comments on the LW website can be rather... eccentric, to say the least, but he's always been entirely pleasant and helpful in my dealings with him. As for the attitudes and opinions he espouses... well, I'm buying a jacket, not marrying the guy. As far as I'm concerned...

LOST WORLDS - Discovering some GREAT leather!

WARNING: The following thread contains material that may be offensive to some Aerophiles. This includes graphic images of leather jackets not manufactured by Aero, and delivered within a reasonable time frame. Wil and Amanda were not consulted in the making of these jackets. Viewer discretion is...

Sourcing your own leather for a jacket in the USA?

No problem... but keep in mind that the number of hides required very much depends on the design of the jacket. Generally speaking, a jacket with fewer, larger sections of leather will require more hides than a jacket with numerous smaller sections. Features like one-piece backs, bi-swing backs...

Sourcing your own leather for a jacket in the USA?

You'll probably need two elk hides. See the website on a different page for number of hides needed for a jacket: http://www.trophyhidesleather.com/how.html

Which company uses the thickest goat hide for a G1 style jacket?

Sounds like what you really want is moose.

Sourcing your own leather for a jacket in the USA?

You should be able to obtain any number of hides of cow, bison, elk or deer from Uber Tanning. No where near as cheap as manufacturers can obtain for larger orders, but it is possible. http://uberleather.com/leather_prices.html Do you mind sharing which manufacturer is willing to do the...

New Member to FL ... hi all! + Vanson House Jacket (Model B)

Thanks, Tommer. I don't know what the COW forum is, and if your statement was meant seriously, I'm sure I don't want to know. (Errrr, despite impressions I may have made in other threads, I really don't go looking for fights or opportunities to insult people... I just have opinions and...

    removing stains from horsehide??

I use the spray, myself, but I suspect Lexol offers the various application options for the simple reason that pepple have different preferences. I think the wipes are a fairly recent addition.

My new furry non leather jacket (we call it the Yetti Jacket), its ok to laugh!

You should have waited till Halloween to post this... really! The scary part is that someone, somewhere actually thought this would sell. It looks like polyester "fun fur". Is it available in purple, orange or blue? Does it come with a "wookie cushion" that roars when you sit down?

    removing stains from horsehide??

I use Lexol; great results, and it won't cause any long-term damage: http://www.summitinds.com/category/lexol/leather-conditioner/ Several others here have reported great results with Pecards, though I haven't tried it myself...

Aero 9 months + wait, is this common ?

I agree completely; from where I stand, Mark appears more the victim, and the factory the villain. On two occasions I've purchased auction items from Mark... that is, jackets that he has on hand, ready for shipment to whoever wins the bid. On both occasions, Mark shipped the jackets the very...

    removing stains from horsehide??

Thanks for the update, Vic :eusa_clap Nice to hear that the first (and least impact) attempt achieved the desired result. :eusa_clap Just as an addendum, I will point out that soapy water does remove some the the oils from the leather, and those oils are needed to keep the leather pliable...
