Why is the back of a fedora brim pointed upwards?

It only points up on snap-brim fedoras - and it is a natural result. By default, the brim would be up all around the hat - it was blocked that way. Most of us snap the front down, but the hat looks strange if you snap it down all around. If you are having one custom made you can exercise some control over how much snap you want, including none. Like a cowboy hat, you can still bend the front down if you want, roll the sides slightly (or not), leave the back basically flat.

I really like that way of flanging the brim...
I may not have this correctly but I think Art refers to it as a "bunny-tail"
someone correct me
