Black Keys is and has always been an awesome band, but they are usually heralded as the hipster band. Screaming Trees were a prime band, and Mark has done some really great solo stuff and some good stuff with Queens Of The Stone Age. The band he had for a while with whathisface from Afghan Whigs was really good too. Mark has one of my absolute favourite voices and usually gets respect from most every musician I've met. But the people I've met at his and Isobel's concerts are the kind of people I'd term "hipster".

But then, I don't use "hipster music" as a pejorative, or indeed asign any sort of value to the expression. I use it to describe music that geeks in skinny jeans listen to. And geeks in skinny jeans are some of the most music savvy people in the world, IMO.

Definitely agree with you about the awesomeness of The Black Keys and Mark Lanegan and would throw QOTSA in there. Although hipsters may have gravitated towards these bands in recent years, I don't believe that makes them Hipster Bands, but then that is just my opinion and I could be as wrong as can be.

It's still in the coolers here, right next to the Narragansett and the Ballantine. Good honest working-people's beer that hasn't yet been rediscovered by the Boys From Marketing. For you West Coasties, the equivalent would be Eastside, Lucky Lager, or Burgie.

Ballantine's is still around?! Hmmmm....That was made by Falstaff at one time.
They still make Lucky Lager and Burgie? I never see them either.

As a stockboy during my high school years, I had to replenish the shelves with Schlitz more than any other beer. Maybe it was the beer of choice for a small farming community, but over time it seemed to disappear until it made some sort of a comeback with migrant workers.

Though you can barely see it, note the bottles of Schlitz in evidence
