Do 30s, Nicoletta!

NicolettaRose said:
I had questions about this too, how formal is friday compared to sat night, is there any other formal times, or is the rest pretty much casual

Is there a "in" decade that we need to dress? is it just 1940's, or can I break out my flapper dress and 1930's gowns and finger wave my hair?

What time does everyone arrive on Fri? ( or thurs)

Can anyone give a break down of events and what outfits we should bring??

TIA!!!!!!!!!
I think everyone should dress whatever vintage is their best! It's not necessarily a decade-specific event, right? The Queen Mary was built between 1931 (my fave year) and 36, when she launched, so 30s is the best match for the interiors!
Besides, if I get to go, i am definitely doing 30s - I don't want to be the only one!

If it's as dress-up as the QM Art Deco Weekend...

I did four outfits a day for four days straight. It was a challenge to pack enough shoes and hats and purses! Luckily we drove, the extra baggage costs would be awful if flying.
Morning walking the deck outfit
Afternoon slightly fancier/cocktail outfit
Evening Attire (totally formal)
Lounge/Pajama (those after parties! Those hangovers!)
I really, really wish the Art Deco Wwekend and the Fedora QM were at the same time! Where were you all!

Slowly but surely, I am making my list of what to bring, along with doing all my alterations. Finished sorting my navy suit yesterday so off to the dry cleaners that goes!

Will anyone be there on Thursday night? We are arriving Wednesday and will be staying the whole time on-board (saves moving cases all over town). We will be dressing for dinner Thursday if anyone else will be there.

Well now, less than two weeks away...

Im leaning towards a more 30s 40s look. In fact my whole wardrobe is leaning that way.

Gloves! My kingdom for a pair of gloves!!

ANGST

ACK, I have been trying things on, packing and mending all day. I think I am going to ship my hats down UPS.

Last night I tried for the very first time to put my hair in pin curls and I had the craziest nest on my head today. Whhaaaa I finally pulled it into kind of a 30's style with a roll across the back.

Ugh, I am undecided still on my formal dress. I did not get to making the one I really wanted.

For the formal night I unfortunately won't be wearing any vintage (except for maybe my shoes)! I do have a great black satin Stop Staring dress though that is perfect for it.

I still need to figure out my other outfits. I'm starting to get nervous! Lord knows my hair will be rebellious that day.

Is there anyone who will be kind enough to let me place maybe a bag of some clothes in their room during the day? I won't be getting a room there, but I would like to be able to change outfits if possible. If all else fails I can always get changed in my boyfriend's truck (when there's a will there's a way!).

I'm in a blind panic about what to bring; I'm tempted to just pack every vintage thing I own and sort it out on the boat!

I've got about 4 vintage dresses that need to go to the dry cleaners tomorrow.

My evening dress is mostly done but I need to finish the hem. I'm really thinking of pulling an all-nighter this weekend and making the matching jacket for the dress too; I found some really nice appliques at Britex when I was in San Francisco that I could use. If only I had Monday off like everyone else in America!

I'm fine on jewelry but woefully short on hats--everything I liked just went for too much money--and shoes. I'm trying to see it as a chance to build my collection for 2008 and not obsess.

Also, I can't decide whether or not to dye my hair. It is my natural darkish brown (with a few greys) for the first time in years. I go back and forth about whether to do my usual dark auburn dye or not. Hmm.

I've been planning for this for months, yet it still feels like it's sneaked up on me. Exciting though! Most importantly, I can't wait to meet all you girls who are going.

I still have to make my formal dress, a couple of skirts (maybe) and a shawl (easy). Plus a hat or two.

I was looking at my closet and I am so ready. My short fall is shoes. I dont want to take any open toe shoes, really. I dont wanna be cold, and with the weather here in SF lately, anywhere near the water is bound to be cool.

Yay!

I scribbled out a diagram allowing a breakfast, lunch and dinner outfit. Its helpful so I can re use a lot of accessories and see exactly what I am packing. Now I dont have to take as much as I thought I was gonna. AND I see that I only have to buy one thing, a pair of gloves

With any event like this that I do, I always do a clothes planner with each day and have a column for Morning, Afternoon and Evening. In that I put the whole outfit so I won't forget anything and I can also see that I'm not wearing the same colour all day, etc.

Try it - it really helps! I updated mine last week and saw I'd forgotten I needed to pack an extra afternoon frock.

Since we are travelling halfway round the world, it's not like I can run home if I forget something. :p

Packing this weekend.........

I always do the packing grid! It really helps. Especially if you can double accessories anywhere to save room. We always take too much on these trips, but I never regret it - what if a shoe breaks on the evening halfway through?
I am so sad I can't be there. I hope you all have a wonderful time!
Next year, for sure.

So did Tammy get invited back this year?

;) :p ;)

Sorry, couldn't resist! A friend in Long Beach sent me pix from her son's wedding earlier this year...and in the crowd...I swear...the picture's not too clear and it was just someone in a distant crowd...but the same type of black blouse with white embroidery...Lise said it was some friend of her sister's who just showed up uninvited and was annoying. Seemed a little too coincidental.

I have stayed on the QM three times and every year they have provided an ironing board and a nicer iron than I own (I was tempted...). And they have built-in clotheslines! But I do bring my steamer.

I love the little white Bakelite shoe racks in the closets... and the closets are roomy!
