Ooh, fun! I haven't seen that movie in a million years and I bet it will be extra fun with so many enthusiasts in the audience.

I wondered if any other movies are scheduled to be shown? With this group I'd imaging a screening of any of the classics would be popular.

We were going to also have Casablanca, but Dejah was afraid it would need to start too early and cut into MKs plans for our dinner hopefully we won't all be repeating the dialog along with the actors:eek:

She has not got the tickets firmed up yet, but we will be able to get them before the event. I also suspect this has limited seating, not sure how big the theater is on the Queen.

*edit* I've never seen Raiders on the big screen and it's my favorite movie ever, so I'm excited! Tickets are really limited for that as well. They're going to try to make it like an "adventurers club" inside. SO excited about that!
 think of all the WHIPS swinging around at the same time.:D I have been looking though the various threads that have pictures from last years event, I am getting really excited about the trip. I do have a feeling I will be seeing the event almost exclusively through the viewfinder of my camera, that's a FILM camera.

I also hope to "SHOOT" everybody in attendance, either as a single or in pairs or both. [the Married couples I do want to get together, as well as any close friends etc.] I also want to try and get shots of each person each day, or change of outfit [might bring the digital too for flash shots  ]

oh, and Lauren, I will BE looking for you;) as you always looked great in the 2006 pics [actually they all did, well except a certain interloper who shall remain nameless TAMMY

I am insanely jealoous!!!!!!
Being stuck here in Blighty!!
All the deco glamour of the QM and you get to drool over Harrison Ford!!!!
:rage:
I am constructing a sharply worded letter that you float the old dear this side of the Atlantic, post haste!
Bah humbug...
However, wthout wishing to deviate too much can I suggest some other 'modern viewing' before you go? Try and get hold of an episode of the X Files called 'Triangle' set on board a similar (if not the same) ship, complete with 30s hair and make up, nasty nazis and a fab screen kiss between Mulder and 'Scully'.
You lucky people you! I want pictures...:D

Most people wear 30's through 50's. I like to do 30's because the ship's maiden voyage was in 1936 and she was in service during the war, but the majority of gals tend to do 40's. The year the event is always supposed to take place is 1939 but no one really pays much attention to that dress-wise.

And thanks, dostacos! I'll see ya there!

Hurrah! Hurrah!

I'm coming to the Queen Mary!

With a bit of financial jiggery - pokery, I will be joining Mr Ben Stephens onboard.

We will be dressed in our 30s stuff since that was the hayday for the ship and I'm planning for three outfits a day, subject to flight weight restrictions.

Have to start planning the wardrobe now and getting it all ready. :)

I am awaiting on a friend of mine. He has a 1930s Austin Reed pamphlet, entitled "What to take on a Cruise". So I will use this for my information.

Miss Sis and I are really looking forward to. dostacos, we would like some nice period shots of us if possible. One of the reasons being, that over New Year, we go to a big event at an English Stately home, the New Year being set in 1938/1939. One of the evenings is a Queen Mary theme evening. We would both like some photographs to show people of us on the Queen Mary c1938, of course, we will cover any expense needed.

I am also hoping to bring my old camera as well, as long as I can get some film for it.

Kindest Regards

Ben

Can I make a small suggestion?

This is the Powder Room thread about 'what to pack and wear'

Can we -try- (and I know its hard!) to keep this thread to that part of the QM...and put all the other stuff over in the thread in Events, so that people who dont read the PR (there are gents that do not step in the PR out of respect for our privacy!) can also participate in the excitement of the -non- clothes discussions.

I think I may just go with thirties as well, 1940's is fun too, but I really prefer 1930's for evening. Has anyone gone on shopping trips for the event? If so, what have you scored?

The last couple of years I started way in advance... like 6 months before scouring ebay. I'm a bit tight-fisted with what I pay for vintage so I had to give myself time! lol But getting a last minute hat and accessories at the Santa Monica Vintage Fashion Expo in October has been something I've been known to do, too ;)

Here's some things I wore to the event over the last three years. Might help with a visual... Also go back and check past threads on photos from the events to see what gals wore.

Late 30's coat from Ebay (got this one for under $10!)

30's evening gown from the Vintage Expo (but I probably bought it about 7 years ago)

Yes boys, shoo! Shoo out of the Powder Room!

I guess they just can't resist seeing what we're doing in here, although I suspect they know it is talking about dresses! lol

Lauren, we had an event last New year that we spent all year preparing for. It was a 30s event and it is happening again this year somewhere different. We scoured all over the place to get all our outfits together.

Luckily I have loads of evening dresses to choose from. Who am I kidding - I have lots of everything! I shouldn't be allowed to buy anything for ages. Back to the sewing machine and pile of fabric for me.....

I do have some and we have photos taken by our photographer friend, Gordon Ayres, that we need to scan. We don't have a computer at home so it is a job for when Ben heads to his parent's house!

I will try to get them up in the Steamer Trunk soon, but I might bring them to the QM event and just show you there!

It was a brilliant event - like a dream. Coming back to the 'real' world was almost a shock after 4 days of good company, snazzy dressing, dinner and dancing. This year it is somewhere different but we are sure it will just as wonderful.

it will be my pleasure to shoot you. we can look around and find some good locations. What type of film does your camera take? there are film resources in the US so I can get some for you.

sorry I am here for two reasons, one my wife is too tired when she gets home from work so I am trying to do her homework for outfits, and second I am so looking forward to this holiday trip that I cannot help myself for encouraging everybody to join in the fun.

edit: please see the EVENTS section for the Queen Mary Event regarding pictures please

Its fine that you are here.

But can we keep this thread to what people are packing and not photo shoot possibilities or discussions of the Event itself? Those can go in the main thread so that it is all in one place.

Thanks
