What is your favorite hat crease?

I have a Stetson New York LE open crown coming tomorrow and have never creased a hat so I thought I would practice on this Stetson Stratoliner Premier open crown. I had Del Monico put a rudimentary crease in it when I bought it this Summer but I thought I would sharpen it up a bit.

Any advice and comments welcome.

Peace.

There is a thread on here, "Show us how you crease your fedoras," started by @moontheloon a couple of years ago where several loungers posted videos of them creasing their hats. Check that out. Also, check Youtube for Pork Pie Hatters videos.

Allow me to preface my question by confessing I am a newbie who has never shaped a hat. I would like a hat with a 2 inch brim and a diamond crown 4 inches tall at the crease with side dents. I'm considering getting an inexpensive Agnoulita open crown to play with. What size open crown should I order? Are there any specific instructions or requests I should make to the supplier?

Depending on how deep you want the crease, I’d say 5 1/2 to 6 inches. If you tell the hatter you want the hat shipped open crown it will be made so it will easily accept your crease. The height of the crown depends on how tall you like your crown and how deep you want the crease. If you like a low crown to go along with your stingy brim you can go less than 5 1/2 inches, but I like a lot of crown height and a deep crease.
