What is your favorite hat crease?

Three of my re-creased baby's........the front one is a trial (for me) that was one of the new pre-creased whippets......it was quite the challenge.......heavily sized and quite costume like......after much work it is softer and looks a LOT differant than when it arrived....

The other two on the other hand are wonderfully soft and absolute clay in my hands......
The one on the left is a 50's Stetson Twenty, mode edge.....2 1/2 inch brim just about a 5 inch crown.(I was wrong about the crown height in a differant post....was thinking of the Borsa) ....the other is a Borsalino with
a 2 3/8 brim and a 5 1/2 inch crown (which gave me more to play with as you see), I am unsure of the date....maybe early 60's? Both have wind cords, the button is tucked under the bow on the Stetson. Cannot say enough about the wonderful felt of those two......

Nice work. Love playing with creases. Somehow very soothing.

I recently purchased a Stetson Premier Stratoliner that came with an open crown.
At first I did a simple bash, center dent and pinch front.
Looking at the hat and the era that it represents I decided to make it a tear drop crown.
So with a spray bottle of water I spritzed it and shaped it.
It came out pretty good, approx.4" front, 5" on the sides and 31/2 in the back , a nice rake.
My next project will be a diamond crown on a Stetson Premier Whippet that I recently ordered.

I wish I’d had you do mine. I’ve never been happy with the bash I did. I tried to redo it, but it wants to go back to what I set it at originally. Where could I send it to reblock to an open crown and start over? Would it be expensive?

Greetings All:
Great thread. Many super creases. I think my most favorite creases are the ones the hat gives to me when i put it on. Some gravitate to where they have been over time but some seem to respond to the form of my head and go their own way which often has much more character then i could empart.
Today my favorite is what i call the “Row boat.”.Thats just where this Nutria went when i popped out the Cattleman, stuck it on my head and pushed down on the crown. She keeps going back there so she stays. Lot of other hats do the same “form fit” and i like that.
But a diamond is dandy too!!
Be well. Bowen

"Row boat". I like that.

What I would like to know is what the heck is the one second from the right on the top row???????
Is it some sort of soft cap? I cannot see it well enough.....

My meager Photoshop skills aren't up to the task of enlarging the image without losing clarity, but to me it looks like a knit cap with one of those fuzzy ball things attached to the top.

Seeing a revival of this thread......here is my 2 1/2 cents...
I really have no favorite crease.....each hat is its own personality, and I have a few that keep changing personality evrytime I handle them ( especially in waiting rooms). On stingy brims with the lover crowns I tend toward center dents or those long narrow lozenge looking creases with high narrow pinches....with the good felt generous crowns on say the 40's and 50's hats I tend to put in interesting crease the hat seems to desire.....with the caviot of the above mentioned "handleing". Here are a few examples I am especially pleased with, and the hats seem pleased too. I probebly get the most comments from these five hats....I just wished they photographed better, the felts and colors, as well as the crease definitions appear MUCH better in person.....

PS the Hats are:
1 a Knox Extra, a deep flange french brim Dobbs, a Lion Hats "The Major", a Borsalino "Qualita Superiore" and a Stetson "Twenty". They each have Great Felt....the crown on the Stetson is lower so I left the shallow dip original to many hats of the time with only a slight counter line at the back, but as you see I went to town on the sides with long deep pinches......
