It’s great what you find when you’re packing out a house. This Disney has been lost to me for half a year or more. Obviously I didn’t look hard for him, but now that I’ve found him, I’m happy to have done so.

I used to really love this guy - he had so much character. Then I had the sweatband changed by a local hatter and the hatter did a bunch of other stuff that I didn’t ask him to do (patched a hole, flattened the brim, reblocked the crown….grrrrr….).

The hat’s okay now but boy did I really like the way it was (cue Barbara Streisand…). That’s one reason it got lost.

Welcome back buddy… just in time for storage… :(

Well, it's nice that you found him, but it's sad to hear how badly the hatter screwed the pooch. Sympathies...

Thanks gentlemen.

Here is what he used to look like. Not a great photo of the hat and you probably can’t even tell a difference but I miss it… (cue Barbara Streisand again…)

Well, this is it for the beloved Mallory Ten. Into storage he goes. I mean, it’s too hot for him for the next couple of months anyway, but putting him in storage and leaving the country is a hard choice to make.

But right now I am kicking it around the house in this great US Army crusher cap. I have a small collection of these guys but I forgot I had this one - probably because when I first purchased it, it didn’t fit my long-haired hippy head. Now it does and I think it looks great with both the Schott A-2 and the Trojan cross-zip.

It is unbranded but does have what looks to be a patent number, suggesting it might be from the fifties or older, but the quality of the plastic liner tip suggests something newer and possibly even a reproduction. Whatever it is, it’s darn good quality and fun to wear - and it’s always fun to find hats you don’t even remember buying!

P. & C. Habig Wien - Berlin, possibly later 1920s. This hat was made specially for the P. & C. Habig Berlin store at Friedrichstrasse 82a which didn't survive WWII. The beautiful Straw Weave glows gold (from a thin coating of shellac) in sunlight and is flexible (only the top of the crown lightly pressed) plus light weight. As you can see from the photos it's in mint condition.
