Steve, did you hear me talking about you this evening? When that happens we Brits have an expression: "Were your ears burning?" Somebody at the 1920's inspired speakeasy that we attended, came out with the: "You look like George Melly," remark. My reply was: "There's a fellow in Denmark who would agree with that."

Could it be the hat, or maybe it was the zoot suit, there again the shoes get lots of comments too. My theory is it's that beautiful redhead on my arm, (George rather liked redheads,) what ever. Here's the gig, and my George Melly outfit.

I was wondering what that sensation was on my lobes, Robert :)

Looks like a cool speakeasy and that is definitely one snazzy George Melly outfit.

Great shape, Jim. Can we see the bow and insides?

Flawless! What a dang hat!

Fantastic hat Jim

That's a nice one. I did a conversion on a Caxton Western....

Thanks, guys! And of course major props to Brent for finding it.

@Steve1857 - since I don't like mucking up threads with the same photos over and over, I'll direct you to Brent's post in the Caxton Cafe where he originally featured it.

Late 50s Knox with mid 40s proportions.
5 3/4 open crown and 2 3/4 bound brim.
Sewed on the 1 1/2” green ribbon and bow last night. Originally a poly blend brown 1 3/4” ribbon that was badly wrinkled and could not be soaked/ironed away.
I like this color combo with the felt color. What do you all think?

So I had been considering getting a little hand held garment steamer for Steaming my hats. Mainly I wanted it for ease of use over my method of boiling a pot of water on the stove and ever so slightly cocking the lid to the side to direct the steam. I had thought it worked fairly well… though I didn’t always achieve my desired results. Also there was the concern of hitting the burner with the hat or my hand! Well I finally broke down and decided to get one. My local store showed a $30 and $50 unit… and I had decided not enough difference in price that I’d go for the $50. Of course when I got to the store the $50 one was out of stock. Disappointed and not really wanting to go with the $30 unit instead noticed they also had a $16 one. I figured what the heck .. if it is terrible I can go with the $50 unit later on. Well much to my surprise this thing produced for more… and more effective steam that my boiling pot method. It directed it exactly where i wanted it and made shaping easy as pie!

Spiffed up the new Whippet and removed the remaininch wrinkles with ease.

Then I decided to have a go at my beat up windy weather whippet. This thing barely holds a shape. Whatever crease you put on the front always turned sideways. Steam or no steam. And the brim always was acting up. Didn’t have too much high hopes…. Welll……….

Wearing my lucky VS Black Cherry, not today but yesterday, for a day on the operating table. Three pics with the hat are in the waiting room, pre pre op. The one of the cue ball is literally pre op. The wife took them all. Had two sinuses repaired and septum was opened up. No post op pics, it was a long day lol. Anyway, all is well. Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

You, too.
Glad they was able to help you breath in a longer life!!
Hopefully the surgery will also help you smell better. Wait...
