Went on an early morning milk run in a bitter cold wind this morning. Had to trot out the Italian Cashmere overcoat to brave the cold. I re-blocked (shaped) my early to mid-1950s San Francisco Hatter fedora. This little odd ball has some interesting dimensions, the crown is kind of short and brim of 2 1/8" It shows that all kinds of hats were manufactured in the 1950s to suit different men's looks. I saw a guide for hat store clerks from the era that showed what style goes with different face/body shapes. I don't follow these rules... This one wants to have a center dent with pinches, no other crease works. Also wore my Johnson & Murphy Sheepskin Oxfords.

Thanks Mike. It was a special day when I found the Resistol. I think I found 3 or 4 hats that day, all my size no less.

The cap was an unusual find, too, but maybe a year earlier.

The jacket is a Harris Tweed unit from Dunn and Co.

Thanks,
Michael
Feels like a dream huh. LOL

Borsalino Caesar Qualtia Speciale - Coffin Hat
Monlov with Bulgaro ribbon
4 inch crown as shaped
1 1/2 dark brown (Bulgaro) grosgrain ribbon
1 7/8 brim with double stitched overwelt

A Borsalino coffin hat at a price I could not pass up. This one a short brim Caesar Qualtia Speciale. The felt is a sort of grayish Milk chocolate brown called Monlov which I have seen described as taupe. Depending on light it shifts between greys and browns. 1 1/2 ribbon Bulgaro Chocolate brown ribbon. The manufacturing label points to late 1960s to mid 1970s. From the looks of the original photos of this hat it was going to need a lot of steam to get it into shape. But a few minutes of working the felt by hand I managed to whip it into a reasonable shape. A bit of steam would smooth out some of the wonky spots for sure. This one has found its way home.

Good to see you smiling and posting with some frequency again, Mike. Has there been some progress regarding your back?

That is a Barbisio beauty, Daniele. The autumn sunlight really brings out its qualities.
I bet I'm not the only one who would like to see photos of the liner and sweat band.

A new high point in your collection, Daniel. Spectacular!!!

A lobbia fit for a king indeed, Daniele!
Thanks for the appreciation and kind words
To complete the Barbisio Rex introduction in FL here there are some details
Barbisio Rex interno totale.jpg

Complete interioi with white lining and a "new to me" Barbisio trade mark and hatt appellation
Barbisio mar Barbisio.jpg Barbisio Rex mar Max.jpg
Details of the stamps on the sweatband
Barbisio Rex etichetta carta.jpg
Paper label under the sweatband. As I said previously there is no date inside the sweatband, usual in the hats for the German market, only a little stamps in ink very difficult to decipher.
Buona giornata
