A bit of a late post. But last night/this morning I’m wearing a Northwest granite. This is the first time wearing this gem a acquired from Mike aka @Redfokker.

I like that hat. Granite is a hue that I find is easy to grab off my hat rack. Glad to see the hats do not leave the Forum members group.

Late to yesterday's party. Morning dog walk - same shirt as the day before, different hat.

Playboy. Probably early 50s.

Excellent Playboy. Glad you changed hats.

Wet morning here in my neighborhood. A Gannon Wanderer (granite beaver felt and charcoal trimmings) was my hat for "feeding" the bird feeders. Seeds, nuts, grubs and sugar syrup (hummingbird and oriole) all distributed. The migrating birds are moving through and feeding like crazy.

Dynamite hat. That hat needs more head time.

I don't remember if I posted pics of me wearing it before...

Love that hat. The felt on your hat is marvelous. Thanks for sharing Max.

Two new hats arrived today and I took time wearing both:

Resistol milan.

O’Farrell:

it’s not really orange. The smoke from the wildfires is casting an orange glow over everything. It’s a bit apocalyptic.

Congrats on the new additions. You have a bunch of very eclectic hats on your hat rack Brent. You wear them easily and confidently. I especially like the O'Farrell. If your pics are indicators, it is a happy hat.

Cheers, Eric -

Merrimac 100% Wool - Brown
J.C. Penney Co Inc
4 1/4 to 3 1/4 crown
1 1/8 Dark Brown Grosgrain Ribbon
2 3/4 brim with 1/8 accented grosgrain binding

This was a hat that had been calling my name for over a month. Finally curiosity got the better of me and I put in an offer that was accepted. Being that wool is not generally the felt of choice. But at this point different is interesting and I hadn’t come Across this brand and with a JC Penney logo on the sweat as well so it kinda caught my eye. So here we have this unlined Merrimac Hat Corp hat featuring Genuine Morfelt Quality 100% wool felt with Merrimac Process originally sold at J.C. Penney Co. In hand as would be expected does feel a bit different than a fine fur felt... it is a bit more course to the touch. However it is still very thin and the crown shapes with ease. The brim is thin and sharp and snaps Up and easily. The mid ribbon works Well with the shorter proportions of the crown and the binding is a nice touch on the brim. The sweat is solid and appears fine for now.. however it is very stiff and I would not mess with trying to get a peek behind it. Overall it is in pretty nice shape except the underside of the brim kept some hungry moths quite well fed... but nothing too too deep along with a little discoloration of the ribbon.

I don’t know much about this brand Merrimac except I read here on the lounge that their factory was in Amesbury, MA where there was until not too long ago a hat museum... where at the time Of the posting (2008) the curator hadn’t had much luck in finding examples of men’s Merrimac hats. I am not sure of the dating of this hat or how Merrimac fits in with the Penney’s Marathon line. The J.C. Penney Co Inc logo on the sweat looks to be prior to mid 1950s but just a best guess. If so.. I’ve seen Marathons both older and newer. So I would think maybe Penney’s sold the Merrimac Line along side the Marathons as maybe as more of a popular price option.

Looks good, Joe. We have to give the wool hats a chance once in a while.

The second recently acquired Borsalino Gorasti, this time in Stibina:

View attachment 260238 Wish I could send this long, heavy rain to the west coast...but I wanna keep this hat. It’s my favorite...this week.
It’s the 40s/50s Royal Adam that I blocked and flanged posted a week ago. Great felt! Finally got around to sewing in a replacement Stetson sweat that I stole out of a 70s model.
It’ll be a daily go to hat, for sure.

Nice work, Randall. The hat is good to go for years to come.

Wearing this Dunn & Co Hurr1cane Grey Fedora today. It was made by one of the great Manchester hat makers, T&W Lees of Denton sometime back in the 60's.

Thanks to Stefan @steur for this one :)

T&W Lees did know how to make them back then, Steve. Looks good on you and nice to see it get some headtime.

Yard chores completed in a Stetson Whippet.

Hey guys, just checking in. This one belonged to my uncle, who was a mortician, and it just happened to be in my size—enjoying the hat show as always.
Good to see you, Reggie. We all need relatives like that (not morticians, but ones with good hats)!

Resistol Byer-Rolnick - Beaver Fifteen
Kitten Finish - Silver Grey
5 3/4 Open Crown - 5 inch as shaped
2 inch black grosgrain ribbon
2 1/4 brim with wide Cavanagh edge
Wind Trolley

As excited as I am to be watching the return of NFL football tonight... I am equally excited to be wearing This 1950s Byer-Rolnick Resistol- Self Conforming Beaver Fifteen with luxurious Kitten Finish In a beautiful light silver came highly recommended by @Randall Renshaw. And boy was he correct. The texture of felt is about as soft and plush as you can get without being a velour. It molds in your hands with ease. The 2 1/4 brim definitely hits a sweet spot for me and it features a beautiful nice wide Cavanagh edge. The oil skin liner is pointing me to 1950s vintage. The sweat appears to be in nice shape and is still malleable. The proportions are fantastic with its ample brim and 2 inch ribbon. This one is in fabulous almost minty condition. It even possessed the original care pamphlet and the managers card from the store it was sold at. This is one excellent hat for sure. If I was ever forced to drop my collection to just one hat... this one would be definitely be in the running.... Both for its beauty and versatility. It hits a sweet spot for me in styling that this could be an everyday hat to wear from the most casual of casual to formal.

Great outfit, Steve. And nice to see the Cervo: that's a hat that can take a bit of rain if need be.

Wonderful, Max. That crease is sharp enough to cut meat.

Very nice, Bill. Pity we don't see Mike @Redfokker around much anymore. He's missed.

It's nice enough on a dull day, Steve, but it needs a bit of sun to shine!

Here’s a Dalton I’ve had for a while and finally, yesterday, able to dye midnight blue. I’ve yet to sew the ribbon on and the original sweatband and liner back in. (I dyed a Mallory the day before)
That’s the original binding with 4 decorative stitching rows. It was 7 1/8 but stretched to 1/4 and able to keep the brim width, being careful also to keep it 2 9/16 all the way ‘round.
Not easy, but doable. Dye job a success, I’d say! It was a medium/dark gray.
I used one packet of navy blue and 1/4 packet of black. In natural light it’s a bit lighter blue, but not much. I love it, and glad it came out this well. It’s my only Dalton!

I also have to add Bickmore hat stiffener and then reshape.
Now, what type of bow treatment to use...?

Here’s a pic of the hat on the block.
DFAF4BCD-7BCF-4EE4-96E2-E6E8ED5D7E46.jpeg

Was going to sell this when it was gray, I have too many, but now since it’s my only blue hat... make room for another favorite. :)
Y'all have a great weekend!
