Sand really is a beautiful color, and for once actually looks true to its name. I'm not really a "jewelry" kind of guy, but I have to say the opal stone on this hat really does take the cake. It's the perfect extra touch :)

Also, Randy, I think you would be able to pull off one of these better than I. Your face shape, from what I've seen, agrees with taper. This hat only looks good on me because of the downturned brim (thank the Lord lol!).

Thanks, I do believe I could pull this off now that I see it on a real head!

I didn't think the stone would float my boat until I saw it on yours. I think it DOES make a perfect little touch to pay homage to the area this hat is named after.

That is very good. It ought to induce some copying in your wider world out there.

Thanks. :) No one has ever tried to copy me yet, but at least folks compliment the look. Fits in well in my work environment.

I really like this exact hat and have had my eye on it. How stiff/light is the felt? It looks great on you and I love the crease.

Thank you sir, I think I have the crease just how I want it now.

It’s Stetson’s Sovereign grade felt and it is far lighter than any of my other modern hats. It’s easy to forget I’m wearing it. The brim, which was pretty soft to begin with compared to anything else I've got, is softening up nicely just from handling it and the felt seems very pliable, definitely a step up from my Royal grade Stetsons that I had to take the baseball bat to. It’s not the thickest in the crown, so I don’t know if it’s one of those hats you would want to try and re-crease often, but it is holding its initial crease well, and seems like it should soften up nicely. I’ve been wearing it for a while every day to help break it in. I’m very positive about it so far.

Still brushing out a little powder though, but at least it gives it that new hat smell.

Thanks for the additional info. I must get one after that review - it sounds even more like what I am looking for. It's definitely on my list I just have to decide where it falls on the list.

On deciding what hat to choose, a Stetson Open Road in silverbelly sort of volunteered itself.

I know I should not say this myself, but some days one pulls together a combination that seems to work like a charm. I think this is one of those days . Different shades of brown and tan predominate.

It has been so much cooler here lately, I have already broken out my black hats for the autumn season.

Royal Scot on Sunday.

Dynafelt with 3" brim yesterday; wool/fur composite that I have had for a couple years but never posted as it is not one of my "better" hats, though I do like it.

Isn't Dynafelt and Morfelt the same thing? If so, I have a Morfelt that I bought on a questionable whim, it's not the worst thing I've seen, but not the greatest.

Yours isn't bad looking at all. Thing is, WE are more conscious of "bad" hats than anyone else... the regular guy you meet wouldn't know the difference... the consolation I have when wearing less than my best hats.

I believe it is similar if not the same. I believe this one is about 10% fur / 90% wool give or take 5% added to the fur side. It does not have the poor luster of a wool hat, but is "western hat stiff" and came with a low crown that is a bit off for the brim height. It steamed well and took the crease fine, as it came open-crown. I bought it on a whim for about $15 on e-Bay a couple years ago and have used it mostly for wintertime walks in the neighborhood with the grandkids (who can be rough on hats when you carry them...carry the kids, not the hat :D )...

I thought so. Mine was also an eBay whim, last month. Mine's soft with a factory crease/pinch. It came a bit crushed from poor packing, and I was afraid to hit it with steam due to the wool content. Since you say you've steamed yours, I'm not so afraid to do so now, it should take it. If not, I only lost $11. [huh]

Thanks for the information, it was helpful!

RLK, that's a hell of a hat (as is appropriate for launching page six hundred threescore and six) of this thread ... ;)
