C.W.N. "Liberty", an antique Wool Soft Felt, came from a East German source. You can see that it attracts lint but the felt is nothing like wool hat felt today. It's hard to explain in words so you have to have the hat in hand.

It'e been a while....been busy.

Black Cherry by North West Hats. I am super in love with this color. I posted something in the NW Hats thread the other day that sparked a few responses. I just want to reiterate that I really like my hats....but feel they are overpriced by $100. Again though that is IMHO. My friend who is also into hats feels the same way. She has way more experience in custom hats than I do.

Regardless mike is a great guy to work with and he definitely is a skilled hat maker. Working with him was easy and a pleasure.

Harv, Thanks! You are looking great in your 1950s Resistol!

Best looking lint trap I've seen!
Thank you! Super looking NOS Borsalino Long Hair!

That is some seriously luxurious looking felt... How old do you think this one is?
Thank you too! My guess is early 1900s. The felt has a really unusual hand. It's very soft but will not dry crease. From what I can remember the black dye is only partially impregnated. In Europe Wool Soft and Stiff Felt hats were very popular pre WWII and the hat companies were always trying to improve them. This hat has some characteristics of the Wool Stiff Felts but without the extreme stiffness. Sorry for the long winded response but this is a very unique hat in my collection. By the way great looking Stetson St. Regis!

What do you think is the fur content of this Stiff Felt?

Beautiful! How does vitafelt feel in the hand -- is it similar to dynafelt? Also, what era are your vitafelts from?
Hi Blue. Sorry for the delay in my response, I just saw your post.

Thanks. All of my Vita-Felts date from the 1940s, which is (as I understand it) the only time that Stetson marketed them until very recently when they resurrected the name for a new product. I believe that the new one is wool, not fur felt (but don't quote me there).

I have never held a dynafelt, so I can't make a comparison. What I can say is that Vita-Felts are some of my favorite hats. The felt is very soft and seemingly less dense than other hats that I have from around that time. They easily take and hold whatever crease desired.

Vita-Felt is an interesting topic around the Lounge and there has been a lot of discussion about whether or not it was the result of a proprietary Stetson process or if it was merely a marketing gimmick. Here is one of those threads. http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/what-is-vita-felt.21641/page-2

I don't know if anyone has come up with a definitive biography of Vita-Felt yet. I've looked, but haven't found it, anyway. I like the idea that it was a patented felt-making process that was aimed at filling the voids in the market created by WWII (after all, no more Borsalinos coming to the U. S. during those years). And I do recall seeing a post about Stetson patenting the Vita-Felt process back in the day. But the history (as far as I can tell) remains murky.

They certainly are some of the nicest Stetsons that I own. I suspect that other Vita-Felt owners around the Lounge will echo that sentiment.

Enjoy, my friend.

Beautiful color! Impressive hat. It is ironic that the hat comes from an East German source with "Liberty" stamped on the sweat.

I flirted with it one other day, but 10 degrees and a 20 mph wind brought out the plaid and fur hat.

Here's hoping your day was warmer. I see all of your hats were classier for sure.

we are a balmy 29 degrees and hard freezing rain, kind of like a glazed doughnut. You look sufficiently bundled up to attack the Arctic blast. I find myself paying attention more to the National weather to check up on my Lounge friends.

Barely bundled up enough. I think it will be long coat weather for awhile. I have to admit that 29 with freezing rain sounds pretty miserable. I prefer a dry cold to a wet cold.
