The last thing I want to do is look intimidating, but I find it next to impossible to take a picture of myself.

I'd been searching for a waistcoat with lapels for a little while- they're not easy to find on the cheap, generally. I happened across a lot on ebay of them, I think, in all different fabrics, tweeds, solid wools, corduroy, camelhair. Some have pocket flaps. They're all '70s or '80s deadstock from Ralph Lauren, with the tags and everything. I like them a lot, and I love having the extra pockets.
