VS. My first crown bash, my first custom

A few weeks ago I saw a Borso in the classifieds and I wanted a hat like it. I ordered a hat in the same color tone but wanted an Ivory highlight in the bow. Some of the pictures are washed out; the hat body is Camel and the ribbon is Chocholate with Ivory.

The hat arrived yesterday with a center dent in the crown and I immediately took off to the kitchen and fired up the steamer to create, to the best of my ability, a clone of that Borso I admired so much.

Here are the pictures of my first custom and my first real attempt at working a crown bash.

One thing I don't like is when a hat liner is resting on my head; so I improvised slightly by putting a slight hump in the dent; and then I decided to put a partial seam in the hump.

I think it turned out pretty darn close to what I had desired; I achieved the reverse taper at the rear of the hat and pretty much nailed the shaping based on the photo I had to work from.

Please check out my VS and let me know what you think of the work I did to it.

Thanks !

RE: What do you call this....

Well first, allow me to say thank you to Art for his nod of approval.:D

What shall we name the bash style on this Fedora, hummmm......great question....if it does not quite exist out there by name already; and I have the distinct opportunity to dub it by name, how about " The Gem " ;)

I predict we'll be seeing more of these, and perhaps a thread devoted to examples of it. How about "Gem Bash Jamboree"?

RE: What do you call this....

Wow....Thank you Mr. E-Train.....!!

I feel like an honor has been bestoed [hope I spelled that right] upon me......It would be so cool to have others post pics of hats that are examples of this style; and a thread devoted to the style, I don't know what to say... awesome!!

It is really a great feeling to have such a great response to the hat thus far. Thank you all.

Get the steam out tonight, bash one up and lets begin the thread, please let this be hat #1 on the post ;) I'll be honored if you take the initative to start it.

I like the simplicity of the name "The Gem" because it has a very ellagant look to it. Although the name you pitched out there is just as appealing.

I'll be checking back soon to see the feedback.

Much appreciated :eusa_clap

That's a very interesting crease. It reminds me of a detail I've seen on late 60's cars, stereos, and even furniture. In a good way, that it. Maybe you should name it after a cool car of the mid-century?

How 'bout the Tempest? You do own a classic GTO. [huh]

RE: What do you call this....

Just thinking about the mention of car's. Definitly, as I look at it more, it has the feel of the rear deck, below the rear window on the 63-67 Vette.

I am a 63 Split Window fan !

I see Bolt jumped in here as I was typing before......hey man.....if you didn't show me how to do a bash and take the time to show me the ropes, I could not have pulled it off. Thanks !!!
