Mallory Premier Quality Durafelt

I have this Mallory for sale in the classifieds but I thought it would be good to add to this thread. Dark brown Mallory Premier Quality Durafelt with a 2 1/4" raw edge brim and a 4 3/4" crown as shown (5 1/2 open) which is wrapped in a 3/4" gold grosgrain ribbon with wind trolley. The felt is very lightweight and soft. Anyone want to weigh in on dating this one. I was thinking the 40s!.

B- Not planning on pulling the photos which is why I posted them here as well as the classifieds. Can help me date this hat? I guess since it has the 1817 date on it it would be a post-Stetson Mallory but would it be from the 40s or the 50s?

Also, in terms of felt quality there seems to be a number of designations on Mallory hats, Aristocrat Quality, Premier Quality and Classic Quality unless I left out some. Quality wise how would these rate from the top down?

Mallory XV

I'm reposting these photos since those on post #640, page 64 of this thread are no longer there.


Mallory XV: 2 3/4" brim with thin overwelt; 5 1/2" open crown with a 1 1/4" grosgrain ribbon and an unreeded sweatband. Appears as though the hat had an oilskin liner cover at one time based on small small flakes I found inside the hat. Note the contradictory dates when Mallory was established on the liner and sweatband. The liner says "1817" and the sweatband says "1823". So from what I understand this would be a post-Stetson era hat probably from around the time when Stetson acquired Mallory in the mid 40s

Mallory XV Pliafelt

The photos on Post #643, pg 65 of this thread were some how deleted so I have reposted them here.

Mallory XV Pliafelt: 2" brim with overwelt edge; 5 1/4" crown (5 3/4 Open); 1 3/4" grosgrain ribbon with wind trolley. Liner use to have an oilskin protective cover. I found this to be an interesting hat with an unusual color. The brim is a slightly different shade then the crown! It has the 1817 date on the liner so it is a Post-Stetson Mallory.

Pre-Stetson Mallory Ten Open Road Style (Reposted)

Photos reposted since those from the original post #640, Pg 64 of this thread are no longer there. The hat has a 2 3/4" brim with thin grosgrain edge and a 5 3/4" open crown which is wrapped in a 3/8" grosgrain ribbon with wind trolley. The inside liner shows no evidence it ever had a liner protector which bears the "1823" date that Mallory was established. The sweatband is unreeded. Hat is still for sale on EBay.

E A Mallory & Sons markings

Found an early Mallory derby with E.A. Mallory & Sons markings. It was too beat up and expensive for me to buy, but I did get pics of the markings. Mallory switched from EA & Sons to Mallory Hats around 1920, so the hat is earlier than that. Based on the brim curl it had and checking period ads, I'm thinking this one was closer to 1906. Note the unusual texture/pattern on the sweatband.
