Dobbs longhair circa WWII:

Color has been difficult to accurately capture, though the first three images are pretty close (as seen on my tablet screen) regarding the felt. In person I would describe the felt color as evergreen. The ribbon is black.

2.75" Brim
5.50" Crown (open)
1.69" Ribbon
0.31" Welt
4.4oz Weight

The felt is lusciously soft to the touch and wonderfully easy to manipulate. This includes the brim which definitely isn't a snap brim, yet nor is it floppy. (Not sure if this is characteristic of a longhair finish, 40s felt, combination of the above, something else... Since my collection is so small I don't have anything to compare it to, so please forgive this poor description.) Looking back through this thread I found five or six examples of hats with the "Improved Felted Welt Edge" but none were on a longhair finish.

The sweatband is rather supple and the five lobe sweatband bow is a nice touch. I did find find residue on the back on the sweatband where the size label would have been attached but alas, no label. There also is a very small partial store label behind the sweatband, but it is torn and only shows the store name (so no price...bummer.)

The color makes this hat a bit difficult to coordinate for regular wear, but then again a hat this unique probably abides by the maxim "less is more." All in all an incredible hat. I consider myself lucky to be the current custodian.

I definitely can't say I'm disappointed with it, but based on the seller pics I was expecting a grey hat. My plan was to pair it with my dress winter coat. When I opened the box and saw the color I just giggled. Sometimes Plan B ends up being better.

Dobbs Rainbow:
It arrived a couple of days ago, but I just got around to unpacking it.

The good. The felt is fairly thin, dense, and easily molded. The felt “ribbon” treatment is attractive.

The bad: The brim is narrower than I’d like. The crown is lower than I’d prefer at approximately 5 1/4 inches. The worst part is the sweatband which is not real leather and the surface is flaking off. Other than the cosmetic issues, the sweat is intact and well attached to the felt. No tags or labels were located behind the sweatband. The liner is glued in place.

Unfortunately, the hat is a bit too small for me. I’d guess it’s a 7 3/8 to 7 1/2 and I’ve since listed it on ebay. My search for a Rainbow and a Game Bird continues.

Dobbs, unlined hat. Overwelt brim at 7cms and crown 10,5cm at the front pinch. It resisted my usual center dent and side pinches and we agreed on this crease. I think I paid about $40 for it, which kind of surprised me. Mike @Redfokker was kind enough, as he always is, to send it to me. OPA priced, so WWII era.
