A tweed (I think) Trilby with a Herringbone pattern that I fished out of the 'Bay. Fits like a glove, and is surprisingly comfortable considering today's 90°F temperatures. Yeah, the crown is a little rumpled but I don't really care. Here's the liner logo...

...and the only labels on the hat:

The inset in that photo is, obviously, the Union logo. And I tried to re-create the only info I could find on the hat that might hint at it's age, but without a Dobbs decoder ring it's pretty much useless.

This isn't the type of hat that I imagined would be my first Dobbs, but...well, that's life. And I shall own at least one of their fur felt fedoras one of these days; this will do for now.
Nice find, Zombie. A tweed Trilby is a great beater hat. That one looks good on you.

You're rockin' it Al! I especially like the brim flipped up in front.

Thank you Sir! This is my first tweed...well, anything...and it seems to be in very good condition despite the wrinkles so I'm looking forward to enjoying it for many years to come.

Speaking of wrinkles, this morning I sprayed it with distilled water to try to smooth those wrinkles out and the odor of everything the hat has ever been exposed to suddenly assaulted my senses in a rather powerful way. Does anyone know whether hand-washing or dry cleaning is the preferred method for cleaning a tweed hat?

Thanks Dale! The overall shape, but particularly the brim up in front, was what caught my eye. Lucky for me it was in the same shape when it arrived. ;)

You can handwash or send a tweed/wool hat to the cleaners. Check this link for some good advice.

Thank you! I tried searching for an answer myself, but most websites chose one method or another and none of them were as concise as the one you linked to. Besides, I trust the people here to give me good advice far more than I'd trust some random website.
You're welcome, Al. If I were you though, I'd have a word with the folks at a dry cleaner's. I'm not sure cold water will help get rid of the smells you mentioned the hat emits.

I took the plunge...or, rather, the hat did...last night when I followed the instructions in the link you posted and soaked it in a bath of cold water and "delicate" laundry detergent for about an hour. It's still drying, but the wrinkles in/on the crown are still slightly visible and will probably return as I handle and wear it. The good news is that the odor has been greatly diminished and now I have to hold the hat close to my nose to get even a hint of it, and even that is masked somewhat by the scent of the detergent. For now I think I'll be okay and won't offend anyone if I get caught in the rain while wearing it this winter, but if that unpleasant aroma returns I'll give the local dry cleaner a shot at it. Thanks again!

You're more than welcome. Glad the home treatment worked. If the smells come back, they'll probably be somewhat diminished, so a new cold bath should work some more.
Steam should help the wrinkles. It helps on my pure new wool jackets in between trips to the dry cleaners, so should help somewhat on your Dobbs.

Courtesy of the thoughtfulness of @BobHufford, a nearly pristine Hanover Square. There are some light grazings around the base of the crown and a fairly decent chomp on the underside of the brim, but they really detract in no way from this hat for me. It's 98% clean and looks darn near unworn. The sweat is in great shape, the felt is clean and well finished with no stains. When I pulled it out of the box, my wife said, "That looks like a new hat!"

Thanks, Bob, for the opportunity to get a great hat!

Nice looking Dobbs, Jim. Are there any other kind? Can't wait to see how you crease this one.

That's the score of the week already, Jim. Fabulous hat, which I know you're going to love. Congrats.
