another Aussie here !!!
Luckily here in the south there are a few fab supermarket chains that stock
English food, so i can get Horlicks, Jaffa Cakes, and mint jelly, i can also get Mexican Milo and the meat department stocks lamb chops from Australia YAY. I do miss milkshakes,
fingerbuns, pie and sauce and rat's coffins ,
oh and bread ( supermarket bread in the US is awful)

I am ambivalent about her too.

Although I think there's more of a danger to the show from Andy Muirhead being charged for child porn

I had no idea. How horrible.
Collecters is a show I fast forward through and just stop IF there is a good segment.

How can we get rid of "Mrs Spock" she is the death knoll to Collectors on ABC TV Australia

No! I absolutely adore her!!! You'll have to get to her through my flapper talons first!

I was on the set at the museum when she made her first appearance - as a collector being interviewed. I fell head over heels for her - she is absolutely warm, charming and delightful, and at the time I thought she was an absolutely magnetic personality. She's the kind of lady who just stands out in a crowd - class, elegance and wit. I was completely thrilled when they chose her as a co-host, as I so vividly remembered the impression she made on me...which was about as strong as any of hosts (except maybe for Gordon). I'll have to see if I can find the photos I took on set that day and see if she's in them.

I was hugely amused that some of our museum volunteers who were standing behind me were grumbling about how modern and avant garde her hairstyle was...I finally told them with a grin that it was actually much older than any of them, was called the "bob of a thousand names" but was often known as a "Dutch doll", and that it made its first modern appearance in Paris c.1916.

I feel a bit sad about that episode now - I was standing right behind Andy Muirhead and am visible in most shots of him. He seemed so professional, and when he returned later for an opening was so pleasant to deal with. What happened was a shock.

Mexican Milo. What's next, Iced Vo Vo's?

Agree on the bread, but perhaps its making inroads there. I scored a very nice Panna de Casa in a midwest Tom Thumb recently - couldn't believe it. Good bread and coffee is a lot easier to find on either the East or West coast.

Given the love for doughnuts there, I really can't understand how a Bakers Delight or Brumby's franchise hasn't caught on, at least in the Mid West (and I don't mean that Atlanta Bakehouse stuff either).

I'm in Canada at the moment & there is a Bakers Delight franchise here (it's called "Cobbs" though). Unfortunately they don't sell vegemite scrolls, but if I ever get a craving for a cheese & bacon roll I'm ok.

Did anyone catch the doco on channel 2 on Sunday about the architecture of John Lautner?

Film link here, good to 23rd July. Infinite space - http://www.johnlautner.org/wp/?p=451

Keep an eye out for a repeat if you have an interest in mid century architecture.

Didn't see it, was interested in the later one about Robin Boyd

His work is more accessible to us here, most being in Melbourne and Sydney

I love Boyd's work and agree it is more accessible.
They put the doco's an back to back almost like they were encouraging us to compare genius side by side.

For the sheer joy of seeing some breathtaking ideas (and I don't dig all his stuff) check out the Lautner doco before the download is withdrawn on 23rd.

I'm from New Zealand. There is an amazing lack of (affordable) vintage clothing/accessories here, but auctions with decent cufflinks, pocket watches etc... are easy enough to come by.

I actually bought quite a few 40s jackets and 30s sewing patterns when I was in Auckland in 2002 for a swing dance camp. The vintage store I got them in was gone the next time I passed through in 2005. It was in alittle arcade and was so full of things it was amazing!
