Stephen L. Stetson Hats

First of the new hats in the collection is this one. Stephen l. Stetson in Texan Palamino colour. This hat was provided by Mike (Redfokker) to whom my thanks go for finding this one and trading it with me in my first transatlantic hat-swap. The colour and proportions of this hat are really wonderful (came with the original box too). Compared to other hats in my collection (almost all European) the brim is noticeable more stiff. Bound brim at 6cm and crown 11cm at the pinch. A beauty.

I love the disclaimer patch...separating the company from the original Stetson brand

That disclaimer message does come up a lot: on the liner, on the box and on the label. Makes me wonder if it was done just for legal reasons or if there was something more to the story.

New Year... New Stetson....
Stephen L Stetson - Never Connected in ANY Way

Stephen L Stetson - Olympic Quality - Graphic
4 1/2 crown as shaped (about 5 1/4 open)
1 inch black grosgrain ribbon
2 1/4 brim with 1/8 grosgrain binding

Stetson.. Stephen L Stetson. I’ve had a hankering for one of these SLS hats since I believe I saw @Redfokker post about his and the Stephen L Stetson story. @Randall Renshaw alerted me to this one a few weeks back and I couldn’t pass it up. A lot for me to like about this hat. Proportions work great... the felt feels very good in hand and responds very well. It includes the Never Connected in Any Way liner disclaimer and also features the unique Carter Trademark Detachable leather sweat system. The manufacturing tag lists the model or color as Graphic.... I couldn’t get a good photo of the whole tag as it is pinned in under the Carter detachable sweat buttons. Taking a guess at 1950s on this one with plastic liner tip protector.

Very nice addition to fill out the collection. Super condition, perfect proportions for you, Joe! If you could only have one hat, this would do it!!

The first photos are as it arrived, with a quick dry bash. A center crease was about all it would hold. The felt is firm and resilient so it didn’t mold very easily. Color is all over the map in these pics due to lighting; the first outdoor pic is probably closest to accurate.

Just a little steam and it easily took a neater crease.

I’m not sure about the timeframe for this one.
