Steal, or stolen from, on these Talbott cufflinks

Ebay auction, winning bid at $69.00. Wife says they look like buttons, but I am more worried about the center of the links. I dont know why I skimmed over this on the listing but it appears that a stone is missing from the center and that is glue spots. So, passable because no one looks that close? Or contact Talbott and see if they could put the stones back in and/or send me replacement stones that I can take to a jeweler? Or send back within my three days? I do say that Talbott are my favorite links, so maybe I was blind to that.

They look to be enamel and I am unable to find an exact match on the "google" so I have no idea what the stone was. My first guess would be not a diamond so anything goes that strikes your fancy. Do they have any mark as to composition metal say sterling or white gold? He has some lovely links but the range is broad say down to $140 or so up wards. If not advertised as damaged or that there is something special about them, say precious metals or stone setting, if you don't love them, send them home.

May I suggest that you fall in love with a particular link and not just the brand.

I can't see how it could have been a true facetted stone in there. Maybe something with a flat back like what may be avialable in Swarovski. As it stands, you could put just about anything you want in them and have something, not as original, but unique. Huge money, but star sapphire cabs would be outrageous in them.

Anyway, if the bare glue was not mentioned in the listing, I believe you are justified in returning them.

They are sterling and are about 6 or so seasons old I am guessing. I am guessing it had either a pearl-type stone or some blue stone, but not something that would be considered a precious gem. I was thinking of salvaging them by using a pearl or some blue stone in them. Wife thinks they look too much like buttons. Talbotts in stores run over $300 a pair and are well made (I have a yellow pair that are like bars). I really like the designs of Talbotts generally. So $69 to me was a steal until I overlooked the glue part. Maybe the price was what attracted me.

Two things...

1) Seems unlikely that BOTH stones would go missing.
2) Talbott has an outlet in Gilroy CA that regularly gets cufflinks. $50 or less. They'll send you photos.

I don't know the brand, but why would cufflinks costing $300 per pair have have shoddily glued in stones? The setting should be better than that.

Quality / cost ratio aside, maybe both are missing as one fell out so the previous owner deliberately removed the other to match?

I see 2 easy options:

1. Remove the glue traces to leave bare metal, and wear them like that.
2. Return them for a refund.

I'd go for number 2 if it was me.

EDIT: Forget what I said about not knowing the brand, was having a blonde moment at work. I stand by my other comments though...
