Found this today. It has wonderful fabric. Only tag is the union tag, can't tell if it's the '36 or '39 one. Hoping it the former.

Debating whether to keep it, I'm a 39R and this is about a 40R-42R. We'll see.

binkie: good man, great coat, great story.
I have a nice overcoat at the tailor's now (she is extending the sleeves). It is a herringbone brown from the early 1940s or maybe late 1930s (I will defer to the likes of Chevalier on the dating). I'll post photos soon.

You can cut a 40 to a 38...but not a 42 I am advised by my alterations tailor.

Sorry for the lack of good photos, I don't have charged batteries for my camera. Maybe later.

This is a supposedly 20's or 30's fur overcoat. Lamb inside, not sure of the collars. Has an interesting back belt. It features four buttons, two on each side. To those one can attach a piece of belt that lengthens the belt by about 1/3rd.

So its basically a full belt that has been cut in to three pieces. Without the two additional pieces it's backbelted.

I'll get back to you on the better pics!

Cost me 10 euros at a flea market

oh, and it's double breasted

Here are few more shots with a slightly better camera.

Here you can see the belt system and the clip by which the two halves are fastened.

No labels whatsoever.

I did find out some of the history though. It seems that it belonged to someones grandfather (the person was about 50). That would put it in to that range, wouldn't it?

The workmanship looks pretty old on this one, but I'm not sure.

I think the date doesn't really matter, because it's a vintage style and in great condition. But the age of the guy you got it from does probably mean it's from the twenties or thirties.
