Awww, thank you everyone for your comments- I’m very lucky to have a mother who can make me the outfits as I’m not so good on the sewing front, I’m more of a knitter!
I might show my 40’s summer suit once I have finished it- just needs the buttonholes doing.

New hat design I just finished. I love it so much and it turned out after the first go at felting, woo!

This was knit double stranded, felted in the washing machine and then blocked on a Styrofoam head.

Finished it off with a grosgrain ribbon and vintage button. In this shot I'm wearing a shrug I knit too. (Adorn Cropped Jacket)

And smashing it looks too! Well done Mum on the sewing and you on choosing all the components. Really like the tartan ribbon and buttons. The thing with mid-1930s stuff is that it is just as Kamikat says, much more sophisticated in general. I think the longer length and slim hips and shoulders makes it feel more 'upright', even when it might be a fairly casual outfit for the time, such as a blouse and long line skirt.

1940s seems less restrictive when worn, perhaps because of the flarey skirts and shorter length. I suit 1940s but just love the 1930s styles SO much more. Also, Wartime style whilst innovative through necessity, was restricted, wheres I like the scope there is in 30s style. I love that every activity had specific clothing items and have a wardrobe full of pretty much everything a woman might have had then! Doesn't stop me making more either...

Hi all,

I just wanted to show off the 1930s/40s cap I made for the L.A. County Fair and to let you know that I'm having a millinery supplies giveaway on my site. So if you like making your own hats, this is an opportunity to possibly pick up some great hat making supplies.

First time I try to make a hat, this one is inspired in the 30's newsboy caps, it's all handmade and (as usual) I had no pattern. Luckily Sproily found some measurements I could use in this forum, he's modelling the hat

Yep, I just calculated the patter using some measurements and geometry/calculus
I'm such a geek, eeeeeekkkkk!

I recently made this cotton dress from a 1953 pattern. I knew I had to make it when I found the striped fabric (just like the illustration) on discount at a local fabric store. It was very easy--no alterations to the pattern and no fasteners. I added ties at the waist so that I wouldn't have to bother with a detachable belt.

And the pattern:

It's one of those fad mother-daughter patterns, and I made the "mother" version (#2).

Somewhat inspired by Drappa's poppy skirt,

I made a skirt from some Thomas Kinkade landscape fabric

I think mine is somber in comparison. I'd love to find some of that Poppy fabric.
