William Mahone, Jr (1856 - 1927)

Son of Confederate Major General & US Senator William Mahone Sr. Of the thirteen children fathered by Gen Mahone, William Jr was one of only three to survive to adulthood.

At 7 - 10 yrs of age little William preferred the same flat top crown style as his dad wore all his life.

"Little Billy" Mahone, interesting character from the Civil War. I have been researching the name as my 4th great grandmother was a Mahone from Southwest VA, descended from Northern Irish immigrants, like Little Billy.

I have stuff on Gen Mahone, slated to replace Gen Robert E. Lee had The Confederacy not surrendered, but little of it on genealogy that might help you.

Adolph Ruth 1865 - 1931

IMG_2460.JPG

DVM & amateur treasure hunter, Ruth went into the Superstition Mountains. When he hadn't returned in a wk a search party was sent to look for him. They found Ruth's belongings all accounted for including his pistol at a campsite, but no Ruth. Sometime later his skeletal remains were found with his skull separated by some distance & showing obvious bullet holes in the right temple area. Some of the searchers wanted to rule it suicide. The mystery is still debated today.
